It's a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood by Laurie Buchanan
With the advent of the World Wide Web, the concept of “neighborhood” is no longer limited to a geographically localized community. Rather, it’s global. On any given day I can—and do—communicate with Ted in New Zealand, Terrill in Canada, Sandi in Georgia, and many others as if we were having a conversation over the back fence.
With that in mind, I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce 5 of the most recent additions to my blogroll—my internet neighborhood. I hope you’ll go knock on their doors and extend each of them a hearty welcome.

Isn’t life in the 21st century GRAND!! I mean I remember breathlessly waiting for the postman to get news of relatives less than 200 miles away. Or how about the 3 minute Sunday phone calls, when the rates were low!!
The world wide web has changed all that for the better. AND it can get be a jungle out there if you don’t have an introduction to whose who by a trusted connection.

A lovely close-to-Spring morning in northern Illinois, though sad to say we are having a dogged “winter mix” spoiling our Wednesday here in the NYC/northern New Jersey area. But just seeing this photo and taking in this acute aspect of blogging you nurture here, I feel like spring is indeed around the corner. Having friends in Japan, Chile, the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand (not to mention a number of others in domestic locations within the US) was the result of this amazing (relatively new) invention called the internet, and my deepest thanks to you Laurie for including me in your special circle of friends. Meeting you and Terrill were two of the great moments have experienced on-line.
Sam – I’m so glad you stopped by today. The photograph in this post was taken about a week (or so) ago during a wonderful break in weather. Today, ours is behaving much like you described yours. But I, too, know that spring is just around the corner–whoohoo!–and I can hardly wait!

Delightful! I love being able to communicate so freely. Although I have to say it is very awesome to still get a note or card in the mail still. There is a little bit of old fashioned in me. Just got an invite to my grand nephew’s 2nd birthday party. He’s so cute I want to squish his cheeks!
We’ve just had a beautiful day in Kaikoura. We had the 100th anniversary of the Kaikoura Golf club, with over a hundred on the course for a shotgun start at 11:15 this morning.
Later I came home and then went out for a walk around the end of the peninsula with some friends from Wellington, and two friends of theirs from Canada, and had a great couple of hours exploring the local wildlife, along the cliff tops, then back along the sea shore.
Then home to prepare dinner for Jewelia and myself, as Ailsa was out performing at a wedding.
Also time online in 3 different communities.
So a very interesting day, in all “neighbourhoods” – one of many communities, and many different sorts of action.
Ted – Your day of celebration at the golf club, followed by a tramp with friends, sounds wonderful! At some point, and if she’s willing, I hope you’ll do a brief clip of Ailsa playing the piano and either share it with us on your blog, or on YouTube.
