Last semester in the University of Life we discussed the different lessons some of us are here to learn. This semester I’m offering Energy Medicine 101. Class topics will include:
– Setting the Stage (definitions)
– Healing versus Curing
– The Master Key to Healing
– The Difference between Complementary, Alternative, and Integrative Medicine
– A Look at Different Energy-Based Therapies—What they Can and Can’t Do
– Death is Not the End
I’m not a physician. I’m a Holistic Health Practitioner, board certified with the American Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP). In this context, my specific area of focus is Energy Medicine. My training and approach have been greatly influenced by three leaders and teachers in this field: Barbara Brennan, Donna Eden, and Caroline Myss.
Over the next weeks I’ll be sharing my thoughts as they relate to Energy Medicine. That doesn’t mean I’m right. That doesn’t mean I’m wrong. It simply means they’re my thoughts. If you share the same mind-set; fantastic! If you don’t, that’s fine too. Either way, please feel free to speak up and share what’s on your heart and mind.
So batten down the hatches and prepare to take on water because we start Energy Medicine 101 the day after tomorrow. Bring a sharpened No. 2 pencil, a fresh tablet, and be sure to ditch your gum before entering class.

What fun I am anticipating, Laurie! (sorry, a little Yoda-like am I feeling today.) It is about time I broke that gum-chewing habit. I’m with Jeff on the books we might need for class. Can you recommend one specific book from each author that will supplement your lectures and assignments? You have read and studied so much, adding a book list to Speaking from the Heart would be a great benefit to your readers. You should do this in your “spare” time (ha ha ha ha ha ha!) 😀

Barbara – We were typing/posting at the same time. I just posted my favorite book from each of the three leaders in the field of Energy Medicine. A book list, huh? Well … I think I can add another “page” to Speaking from the Heart. I could basically cut and paste the Bibliography from my manuscript and plop it in there (it’s extensive). Let me give that some thought. As you know, I’m out the door shortly to be the “Spa” at a bridal shower today.

My goodness, we’re having a class on line? Very good! I have read every book except Donna Eden’s. Brennan’s book is still here on the shelf but I think I gave Myss’ book to someone else. I have her book “Creation of Health”. Looking forward to seeing what you present! Many thanks for your good teachings.
Kathy – It’s never fun to sit and listen to a boring lecture. I’ll launch a topic and then I’m in great hopes that everyone will share their thoughts, ideas, and maybe even experiences.
Thanks for opening this class…Sounds challenging , however enlightening. I will run swiftly over to my Kindle and pull up samples of the three books if they are there.

I am nursing OREOZ today, he has an upset stomach. Probably because those babysitters fed him something this week when I was in st Louis or maybe he just missed me so much he got all nervous. Probably a bit of both.

Kim – How is OREOZ doing today? I’m sure his upset stomach was because he missed you. My three girls are all moping around wondering where the heck Len is. Maybe you and OREOZ will go for a long walk and enjoy the glorious sunshine we’ve been gifted with today.

I think this last week just wore me down.
I did find out a little secret of his this morning! We need to make sure the lids to the toilets are down. I caught him this morning in Joes bathroom! Good thing it was clean water…UGH.
Mike is golfing with Joe and Amanda went to lunch with a friend. Oreoz and I are sitting in my favorite chair doing a few e-mails, I just heard the garage door go up, must be Amanda.

Kim – Well, that just goes to show that OREOZ knows how to use his resources wisely. And we know he won’t get dehydrated! I hope your walk was nice. I checked to make sure I have your email in our system correctly. We actually had you listed twice. Once as Kim, and another time as Kimberly. Once as Snoopy 1 and once as Snoopy 2. I eliminated the 1 and stuck with the 2 — thank you for letting me know. Have a great week!
Laurie I am ready for your next few posts. I have read none of your leader and teachers… though I have handled the various text at Banyon Books – I’m guessing that doesn’t count.
I will be away for next few days but will check in on Tuesday – so I am not skipping class as I am legitimately at my daughter’s bridal shower for her up coming wedding in July.
No worries whatsoever, Terrill. You don’t need to have read any of the leaders/teachers/books that I mentiond. I was at a bridal shower all day long today — I was the “spa” part of the event. A good time was had by all. I know you’ll have a wonderful time at your daughter’s bridal shower. Is it Josie who’s getting married?
Yes it is Josie who is getting married – on July 17th… big wedding because both her and Ryan have big families… about 130 of us at a beautiful ocean front location, Brentwood College. I got a tour of the site on Monday. It is going to be so much fun.

Hi, Laurie, I’ll be in the back of the room wearing a big pointed hat. I know a little about Caroline Myss but zilch about the others. I will have my big eyes and big ears tuned up and ready to record.
Sandi – A pointed hat simply won’t work on your well-rounded, wise noggin’! (although I think it would be cool to try the “sorting hat” in Harry Potter!). As I was sharing with Kathy, My intention is to introduce a topic, and then I’m hoping that people will share what’s on their hearts and minds. Some people may even have an experience or two to share.

Well I seem to be the fish out of water. New kid in the class.
I do not know these woman or have I read any of their books.(yet)
I am an open mind for you to fill with ideas, information and thoughts.
I am really looking forward to the idea of Energy Medicine and healing. I have just added Riki Massage to my routine and a bio feedback exam.
I will look up these books and get started on reading.
When I was in school, extra credit just meant extra work, that had to be done!!

Jean – Please don’t think you have to read the books in order to participate. This won’t be lecture-style … I’m going to throw out a topic with some thoughts, and then I’m looking for everyone to share their thoughts, ideas, experiences, etc. Tomorrow morning we’ll start with definitions so we’re all working from the same page. I look forward to seeing you then.
I hope everyone in class turns off their cell phones, blackberries, apricots and bananas so we can hear Dr Buchanan in peace!
Oh my gosh, Kevin – I am laughing hysterically at your comment! And I can hear it being delivered in your glorious accent (I know you swear you don’t have one, but TRUST ME, you do). You may not roll your R’s, but you do, indeed, have an accent.
Sounds like interesting stuff.
I may have a different interpretive schema, and I am very interested in practices and results.
Ted – a different interpretive schema will make it all the more interesting! Please know that I have no intention of lecturing. My intent is to introduce a topic, wrap some thought around it as it relates to Energy Medicine, and then hope that everyone will add their thoughts, ideas, experiences, and questions.
This is a great work you do Laurie! I can personally vouch for it.
Donna Eden has helped me tremendously. My energy level and sense of well being has actually improved with age Thanks to her techniques. I would encourage anyone and everyone to explore this. It has made a dramatic difference in how I feel and experience my life in a very noticeable way improving my quality of life at a time when some people say I should be feeling the effects of aging.
Oh well! Another paradigm down the drain. ;o)
