My parents seemed to me, when I was in high school, and ever since until their deaths about ten years ago, to be like a mommy and daddy robin. They were focused on the job of being our parents. They were always offering words of wisdom and instructions on completing tasks. We worked as a team often, with housework, cleaning cars, or doing lawn work. They were fussy with the details. Today, I am a fairly independent person who enjoys working, and teamwork, and playing. I’m organized as well, usually. These are survival skills for me which were taught early on. I am not intimidated by things usually considered man’s work, which means I fix stuff often without needing to involve my husband. I am so grateful to my parents for all of the energy it took to raise my sisters and me.
Marla — I love it when people can point to specific, positive role models in their life. Clearly, your parents were that for you. Thank you for sharing 🙂
