Today—Nov 1, 2016—is the official release day of Note to Self: A Seven-Step Path to Gratitude and Growth. Like a hovercraft, my feet haven’t touched the ground!
In an article featured on BuzzFeed today, Note to Self is listed as one of the 5 Self-Help Books To Keep You Centered During Election Week. Here’s what they wrote:
“Lugging around emotional baggage is something that we’ve all experienced and something that no one enjoys because it can hinder our journey through life. But, in this seven-step guide Laurie Buchanan explores the significance of unpacking that baggage in order to begin a healthier stage of living. This honest and open guide gives readers the knowledge, techniques and real world examples they need to discover a happier version of themselves.” —BuzzFeed
Hosted by The Present Moment, my book launch party is scheduled for Nov 12 at the Civic Center in Libertyville, IL—just north of Chicago. Click HERE for details. I hope to see you there.
I’m delighted to share that Note to Self was selected as a 2016 Idaho Author Award winner in the category of inspiration.
Tonight we attend the awards reception and ceremony, so let’s just say my feet won’t touch the ground for the next week or seven!
Note to Self is additionally in the running for the Nautilus Award. This distinction is for books with exceptional literary contributions to spiritual growth, conscious living and green values, high-level wellness, responsible leadership, and positive social change.
For those who can’t attend the book launch, you can still get a signed copy of Note to Self. Simply call my local bookstore—Rediscovered Books—at 208.376.4229 and let them know you’d like to purchase a signed copy of Laurie Buchanan’s Note to Self. They’ll ship it to you within 24 hours.
If you live in the Boise area, Rediscovered Books is hosting me at a market style event from 11:00 am to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 7. I’d be happy to sign and copy for you there.
If you live outside the United States, you can order Note to Self through Amazon or Barnes and Noble.
Ways you can help me launch Note to Self:

Congratulations, Laurie! It sounds great and good luck! I’d love to be there but it’s very far. Perhaps one day. At the moment I’m reading two books, one in Spanish ‘Niños sin ojos’ by Enrique Laso, the latest in a thriller of his, and the other one ‘The Demon Road Trilogy 3. American Monsters’ by Derek Landy. I’ve enjoyed the other novels in both series… Best of luck!

Marian — Thank you for the well wishes. I’m a huge fan of Madeleine L’Engle 🙂
Congratulations, Laurie! I’m looking forward to seeing you in Libertyville. As a writer in-process, I can only imagine what this moment must feel like for you!
I’m returning to finish reading Daisy A. Hickman’s, Silence of the Morning. I initially started reading at a time when a death in my family was too fresh. Daisy goes deep in a very compelling way as you know.
Then, in the wings an entirely different genre, Terry Tempest Williams’ book, The Hour of Land: A Personal Topography of America’s National Parks. It is, according to the jacket, “a literary celebration of our national parks, an exploration of what they mean to us and what we mean to them.” It is also said to be, “a meditation and manifesto on why wild lands matter to the soul of America.” I’ve loved her books ever since I read an early book of hers entitled, Refuge.
And, a new book waiting on my shelf, another manifesto (something in the air?), Ashton Appleton’s, This Chair Rock’s: A Manifesto Against Aging. Appleton is the influencer of the year on aging. I can’t wait to start it.
Audrey — I’m looking forward to seeing you at the book launch party in Libertyville, too! Having read Daisy’s book, I can say it’s heartbreakingly exquisite.
Congratulations! I know this has been a long journey and you’ve made it! All your work has and will pay off! I’ll see you at the book launch and can’t wait to start reading. You did it!
Barbara — I’m so glad you’re coming to the book launch party. I look forward to seeing you there 🙂

Congratulations, Laurie. Getting a book published is hard work (and not just the writing either) but I know from experience that it is worth it. It is a special joy and accomplishment.
I am reading “The Girl on the Train” by Paula Hawkins. I know, another mystery, but you read in the area you write. And I’m reading on my Kobo, something I don’t do often as I’m an old-fashioned read the print books.
Cheers.

I’ll tell you the latest there. I’m reading Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises — a really depressed and sad group of characters post WWI; Halfway through and first time reading this classic. Hi Laurie
Best of luck with the launch.
On my beside table is John Gribbin’s “Science, a history”, and I am down to the last chapter.
On my laptop I have Elinor Ostrom’s “Governing the commons” – subtitled “The evolution of Institutions for collective action.”
Both worth the read, and both reasonably dense reading.

What a week it doesn’t help with me causing havoc …put aside …I hope you are enjoying all the joys of being an author 😊
I usually read three books at a time ( I sometimes I wish I had three heads ) A novel , something factual ( I love cookery books especially this time of year) and self help psychology based book. Obviously I read a few chapters of each in turn, I’m not a magician 😀
At the moment I’m reading for my novel ‘ The house at Riverton ‘ Kate Morton ( just started looks good ) ‘Big Magic ‘ Elizabeth Gilbert thought inspiring and a little novelette ‘ This Book Will Make You Mindful ‘ by Dr Jessamy Hibberd & Jo Usmar .
All put aside when I receive yours …so looking forward to it .
Cherryx
Cherry — You are a voracious reader! I just finished “Shift Into Thrive,” and started “The Woman Who Breathed Two Worlds.” My head clearly isn’t wired for THREE books at a time, like yours! 🙂
I am no where near as clever as you , just potty . It isn’t about the amount you read it’s about what you get from a book … I get buckets of the info I need 😊
Cherryx
Cherry — That’s because you’re brilliant 🙂
