  1. Beautiful trailer! Will order book.
Currently reading Far From The Madding Crowd, by Thomas Hardy. It’s been on my ‘must-read’ list for years. Loving the bucolic feeling it transmits. 👍

  2. Whoo Hoo! How exciting. I happen to know that your book is FABULOUS.
I’ve just finished reading Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand (great read) and am now reading The Dressmaker by Kate Alcott.

    • Pam — Thank you! I just looked up the two books you mentioned and couldn’t help but put them on my must-read list. I told someone recently that if we don’t get to die until after we finish reading all of the books on our must-read list, I’m going to live forever!

      • Well, me too then! My main wish is that when I am elderly, I still have the ability to read. Even if I can’t do anything else, I can live/explore/experience through all those books on our list. xo

  3. The trailer captured your vibe, a tall woman jumping for joy! Right now I’m reading Helen Macdonald’s H is for Hawk, and I have on hold The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: the Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing, which should help us before and after our move.

I can’t wait to hold this book in my hands. Brava, Laurie!

    • Marian — I’ve not heard of the Japanese Decluttering book you mention, but I know (without a doubt) I would love it. I’ll definitely be interested to know your thoughts once done.

I’m excited to have “Note to Self” in my hands, too! Woohoo 🙂

  4. Nice trailer! I have a whole stack of self-help books waiting to be read (I sometimes feel like I need a lot of help!) but think I’ll add yours to my list! Right now I’m reading My Reading Life by Pat Conroy.

    • Cindy — I’m glad you enjoyed the book trailer, thank you for letting me know. “My Reading Life” is on my must-read list. By all accounts, I think I will find it profoundly moving.

  5. Your trailer and book site are top notch! Congratulations! By the way, the art work is so creative as well. Can’t wait to have my copy in hand. I’m reading an older text of David Brooks entitled The Road to Character. Actually a work related read … like to read a broad range of perspectives!

    • Audrey — I’m so glad you enjoyed the book trailer, thank you for letting me know. I’ve not read “The Road to Character,” but I just made a note of it. Like you, I enjoy a broad range of perspectives 🙂

  6. After watching that, I’m even more excited to see your new book, Laurie.

I’m currently reading three books: one fiction, one on the writing craft and Elizabeth Gilbert’s (Eat Pray Love) latest book–Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear. I highly recommend it. Positive re-enforcement on each page.

  7. Loved the trailer! It is appealing and intriguing, as I’m sure your book will be! You are reaching out and spreading your gift — congratulations!

  8. Laurie, I loved seeing this trailer! You can see she is on a journey…but does she really NEED all that baggage to make it enjoyable and practical? Of course not! Makes your point beautifully. Along with so many others, I can’t wait until I hold it in my hands! Like you so often say, “Travel light, travel fast.”, this will be my mantra as we make our way across the U.S. this Spring. I am just beginning to read “Great Short Stories By American Women”, edited by Candace Ward. While not a big fan of short stories, these seem to be the cream of the crop. By the way, you’re new blog page layout is fantastic!

    • Sandi — In my mind’s eye I see you pared down to just about nothin’ as you and Dennis zoom your way cross-country.

I’ve just made a note to look up “Great Short Stories by American Women.” It sounds like an excellent read!

I’m glad you like the new blog layout, thank you for letting me know 🙂

  9. Beautiful Laurie! It brought to mind some of the conversations you and I had about the life changes I’d just gone through when we first met. You helped me then, and I look forward to sharing your gentle wisdom once again through your book. Congratulations!

  10. LOVE LOVE LOVE the trailer!! I’ve already mentally made notes of 2 people I will buy this for as a gift along with my own copy! Another reason to look forward to my favorite season….Fall!

To answer the question…right now is our busy season on the farm so only blog reading for me for a while! Tina

  11. Awesome trailer! I didn’t know there was trailers for books, you must be like the coolest chic in Idaho and the Pacific Northwest in general! Congrats my friend :), I’m currently reading the
Indiana Code of Statutes on criminal harassment and stalking. Really riveting stuff, since my contempt of court case is tied to my family law divorce case from almost two freaking years ago I’m going to get pummeled in court tomorrow over my first amendment right of free speech. Hardly seems fair doesn’t it :(. Think you could call in a favor to the Dalai Lama for me. Sorry for the rant, being lawyerless and going up against a bull dog has been a tad frustrating.

  12. Great trailer and it does make me excited to read the book. Can hardly wait.
Have enjoyed reading several Internet friends books this month
. Just finishing The Silence of Morning by Daisy Hickman today My calendar is full of reads to August for review.
    I do love to read.

    • Patricia — I’m so glad you love to “read and tell” because that’s how I find half the books I read. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on “The Silence of Morning.” I read it and was so glad that I did.

  13. Just finished reading Richard Dawkins’ “Brief Candle in the Dark” and Dan Dennett’s “Intuition pumps” – both of which were excellent.

Currently reading a science fiction book recommended to me, Peter Hamilton’s “The Reality Dysfunction” – which has some aspects of a reasonable story, but has so much bad science that I’m not enjoying it as much as I had hoped. And in one sense the entire book is a great demonstration of just how limiting and destructive the concept of money is, once technology is able to deliver abundance (also does a good demonstration of limits of the utility of most religious paradigms – but I don’t think he intended either aspect).

Well done for creating your own book Laurie – I look forward to reading it.

    • Ted — I have no idea how my mind switched tracks, but after reading the books you named, thought you might enjoy reading (if you haven’t already) “Lights Out: A Cyberattack, A Nation Unprepared, Surviving the Aftermath” by Ted Koppel.

A just read the Amazon descriptor blurb for “Brief Candle in the Dark” and I’m intrigued.

  14. Yaaaahhhoooo Laurie! I am beaming with excitement for you and this long awaited book to finally arrive. I have to admit to not reading much at all at the moment because I have a handful of brushes in each hand and herd of canvases to round up and complete in the next few days before I leave on the next adventure of seven weeks in Prince Edward Island. I will be preordering your book upon my return. Good luck with it all and I shall be staying tuned for whatever is next.

    • Terrill — Because of the amazing video clips you post on Facebook, I can actually see you, paintbrush in hand. I’m looking forward to seeing photographs and paintings from your up-and-coming adventure. Enjoy!

  15. Laurie, you have prepared yourself so well for the launch and marketing of your book. I’m impressed and learning from you each step of the way. This trailer is amazing! One of the best I’ve ever seen. The flow and relational placement of your thoughts and words and the imagery is stellar. It excites me, makes me want to read that book!

What am I reading right now? An interesting biographical novel written by Ellen Feldman titled Terrible Virtue. It shares the story of Margaret Sanger, one of our sex’s heroine’s who tested the waters with her passion for birth control, freedom for women, and became a great speaker and writer among the socialists of her time. I’m thoroughly enjoying it!

  16. Wow ‼️🎈🎈🎈I watched the trailer , what fun 😊 It had me jumping for joy like the actress . I love this idea of a trailer for a book I have seen others but yours , well , it’s yours . I can not wait to read this book Laurie you are a total inspiration .
I am currently reading ‘The Colour Purple ‘ by Alice Walker. ‘ I have wanted to read it for years …loving it . Also had The Invention Of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd on kindle for two years . Started it just as I was leaving the Midlands but never got around to finishing it …just picked it up from the library about to start it 🌷🌷🌷 I often have two or three books on the go at the same time
I love the idea of asking what other people are reading because I get a new list …yours it right at the top👏👏👏
    Xxx Cherryx

    • Cherry — I’m so glad you enjoyed the book trailer for Note to Self. Thank you for letting me know.

A HUGE reader, I loved “The Color Purple,” and “The Invention of Wings.”

If you read the various comments throughout this post, you’ll find loads of books to add to your must-read list 🙂

  17. I forgot to explain about my Kindle . Don’t get me wrong , love em , have umpteen books in mine . But ain’t nothing like the real thing ❤️
    Cherryx

    • Cherry — I love “the real thing” too. That said… I have a Kindle Paperwhite that’s perfect because when I travel (which is often), I don’t have to heave 5 or 6 books up into the airplane’s overhead compartment 🙂

  18. So very happy to hear that you’re dream is coming true! Do you have to keep pinching yourself to make sure you’re not dreaming? *grin* The book trailer is really professional.

  19. A great big congratulations to you Laurie! What a moving and inspiring trailer! Can’t wait to obtain a copy of your book, which I will read cover to cover! Just months away now! The trailer will no doubt win new fans! I am nearly done with Eric Schlosser’s ‘Command and Control.”
