I remember sitting on the floor between my mom’s knees as she brushed through the tight curls on my head. I yelped in pain when the bristles encountered snags and she’d counter with, “Beauty knows no pain.”
Two decades later mom used “No Tweeze” on me to remove stray eyebrows. I yelped in pain when she yanked the hot wax and calmly said, “Beauty knows no pain.”
Liar, liar, pants on fire!
Recently I learned a pain-free beauty tip…
Hold frozen spoons—straight from the freezer—on closed eyes to eliminate under-eye puffiness. The person who showed me this trick placed the spoons directly on her skin, moving them slowly in a circular motion.
When Len said, “You’re going to get frostbite,” I discovered that placing an old washcloth between my skin and the spoons allows me to keep the spoons there much longer, yielding even better results.
He also said, “Laurie, you’re scaring Willa, you look like an alien!”
What’s your best pain-free beauty or grooming tip?
Hilarious! Great photo.
You know I am going to try this, right? 😀
Jhanis — Absolutely! 🙂
I’ve given up waxing. After many years of painful hair yanking, I’ve gone back to razor blades twice a week! A lot cheaper and quicker too!!!
Fatimasaysell — Amen siSTAR! 🙂
So funny, Laurie!
Best pain-free grooming tip? Taking a nice, warm shower! 😉
Merril — It doesn’t get much better than that. Ahhhhhhhh 🙂
Great photo. A great Halloween pic actually. My painfree beauty tip is to read Kahlil Gibran’s “The Prophet” to enhance your inner beauty! I cheated! xx Rowena
Roweeee — Ya gotta LOVE it! 🙂
LOL,
Cucumbers work too.
Taking a walk, getting enough rest and sleep, eating healthy, listening to my body, mind, and spirit…
Jeff — yes, Yes, YES indeed 🙂
I hated my mother brushing my hair too. It was long and very fine but there was lots of it and it knotted terribly. Maybe that’s why I keep it short now. I’m not much for beauty treatments but a little honey makes a great face pack.
Marie — I think honey is one of those miracles. It’s been used by numerous cultures for medicinal purposes, and I see it’s healthy properties included in many beauty-type products, too. I’ve never tried it on my face; gonna have to give it a go! 🙂
I like that spoon thing and may even try it. But my best painless beauty treatment is sleep, sleep, and more sleep. Except when nightmares come on.
Joan — It’s amazing what good sound sleep does for a person both inside and out! 🙂
I laughed myself silly at your photo though I think the fix is spot on. I’m sure I will try it in the morning. And a nice warm tub bath tonight. 😉
Cliff warns, “Don’t get stuck in a cryogenic treatment center!”
Marian — Laughter is a great way to start the day (another beauty tip right there). Cliff’s warning cracked me up! 🙂
My spoons are frozen now – let’s see what happens!
Just never look in the mirror – that would be the most painless procedure I could think of. I’m too vain to practice that, however.
Carol — You crack me up! 🙂
Hell fire looks like the zombie apocalypse has started in Idaho. I’m off to my underground bunker! Good tip though.
Gary — You can run, but you can’t hide….
That’s a great photo Laurie! I am not sure I have any beauty tips pain-free or otherwise. I suppose to let the sun kiss your cheeks for at least 15 minutes each day is one.
Terrill — I love it. Absolutely love it! 🙂
My pain-free beauty tip is looking in the mirror, smiling and saying, “I love you just as you are.” : )
The perfect beauty tip!
Thank you, Particia. : )
Leanne — Now THAT’S a winner! 🙂
: )
You are welcome and this is such a fun post – loving Laurie’s picture Keep seeing it in my mind’s eye this morning
Thanks for the chuckle Laurie! 😉
Val — See, that right there is a beauty tip: Laughter!
Perfect!
I am just so beautiful I do not have beauty tips!!!! I do get very dark circles under my eyes, which worry other people in my life and so I lay down on the bed and drop my head over the side and hang upside down – I don’t do head or hand stands any more and this does the trick. Heck I can not tie my shoes yet so hanging down my head is very rare. I also have 1/4 cup raw lemon juice in a glass of hot water or cold water (summer) which my kidneys and liver love and helps to clean my system and clear the dark under my eyes. Not painful at all. I switch off with apple cider vinegar with the mother, 2 tablespoons a day when I have muscle spasms – or in the middle of the night for muscle spasms – there is a bit of pain with that but so too is relief!
Loved the picture and enjoyed the suggestion.
Patricia — I’m a huge fan of Mrs. Bragg’s apple cider vinegar, and/or freshly squeezed lemon juice in hot water. I didn’t know the about hanging one’s head over the side of the bed. Who knew?! 🙂
Hanging head upside down is very helpful to the eyes and the kidney’s And I have done it for many years – when I was swimming a mile 3 times a week it also opened the ear canals. When I was little the PT made me down Down Dog for my kidneys all the time
Patricia — I do Downward Dog as part of my daily yoga routine, but you can bet your bottom dollar I’m going to incorporate hanging upside down over the side of the bed as well. Thanks for the great tip! 🙂
Ha…love the picture!! I’d have to say the best advice I received was in my junior year in high school. A friend about 3 years older told me to never pluck my eyebrows and showed me how to use a regular razor to shape them. 10 minutes later I had to draw my eyebrows on with liner until they grew back as she couldn’t even them and basically shaved them off!!
I “tweaked” her system when they finally grew back and have never plucked my eyebrows with tweezers always using the pain free razor! In a few years I will share this tip with my daughter.
Tina — She basically shaved your eyebrows off? Oh my blessed word! I’m so glad you perfected the process 🙂
Oh yes, they were gone. I looked like Phyllis Diller for about a month 🙂
Eat a 90%+ vegetable based diet.
Accept that you are beautiful as you are – and don’t worry about changing anything!
Ted — Clearly, it works like a charm you healthy, happy, handsome man, you! 🙂
Excellent idea, Laurie. . whoda thunk it!!
Alison — I know. Crazy easy. Free. Doesn’t hurt. Effective. 🙂
Two of my children have tattoos, so I’m sure they would agree that beauty knows no pain (although I’m not sure, to my eyes, that ink in skin is beauty!) I’m with you on this one, only use the treatment if it’s pain free. 🙂
Joanne — Here’s to pain-free. Cheers! 🙂
Love the picture! I agree with the healthy eating tips, not looking at the mirror, and these days that I need glasses to see close up and personal, take your glasses off! Everything looks cleaner and better (if a bit blurry!)
Olga – Ya gotta love it! 🙂
Love the picture and the comments..head hanging mmmm, not looking in the mirror sounds good..my eye brows have been plucked to death in the past and just stay as they are now they don’t grow. I can’t say that for( now i’m whispering)..the hairs on my chin..grrrrrr have tweezers on my keyboard so If I one of the b******** shows it head then it gets plucked it’s almost a ritual now 🙂
Blondieaka — Your chin hair comment made me laugh. Thank you!
Happy to oblige 🙂
You make me laugh! I thought about frost bite too! My favorite pain-free beauty tip is soaking in an Epsom salts bath. The moisture and the soothing comfort brightens me up from the inside out!
Dorothy — yes, Yes, YES indeed. You can’t go wrong with an Epsom salts bath 🙂
BTW I always share your posts with my husband! He loves them to!
Dorothy — Thank you so much for letting me know 🙂
we used to cry when out mom braided out hair in pigtails my sister said it made her eyes slant that they were pulled so tight…LOL my best beauty tip is coconut oil.(organic extra virgin) no it won’t bring back our virginity but it sure helps take away brown spots and helps moisture…..and you smell good enough to eat…LOL kat
New Journey — I agree. Coconut oil is like a miracle. I didn’t know that it removed brown spots. I’m going to start using it on the backs of my hands – thank you for the great tip! 🙂
I would love curls Laurie . My hair is fine straight and unmanageable . The things I used to do to get the most out of it was quite unbelievable . When I was about 16 I would roller it every night and put a clean pair of tights over the top and tie the legs in a bow …can you imagine . I can not count the times I’ve come back from the hair dressers and put my head in the sink . You see if only I’d had Farrah Fawset Majors hair ….or yours Laurie 🤔
Cherryx
Cherry — I’m grinning from ear-to-ear at the thought of you with tights tied into a bow on top of your head. I’m pretty sure a photo of that would be worth a fortune in blackmail money 🙂
Laurie, my beauty regimen takes little time or trouble…clean skin and hair. And just enough color on the lips so I don’t look like something washed up by the tide. No spoons unless they are load-bearing straight to my mouth.
Sandi — And I’ve seen you in person to know that your beauty regimen works like a charm! (Cracking up at your load-bearing spoon remark)… 🙂
Thanks, Laurie! Having seen YOU face to face to face, I feel I can tell you in all honesty….lose the spoons. You don’t need them. You’ve got enough sparkle in your eyes to light up a room!
What a great idea! I need to put some spoons in the freezer right now! 🙂
Debra — You just made me smile! 🙂
hahahaha great post Laurie!! If you are one with make pattern baldness the answer is simple: shave everything off! Ha! I haven’t quite taken that drastic step, but one of my brothers has, and it permanently saves him a trip to the barber shop. 🙂
Sam — Sounds like your brother is a man with a plan! 🙂
Watching funny Youtube videos. I laugh so hard I look like a different person afterwards…ruddy-cheeked and twinkly-eyed.
Timelesslady — I love it. Absolutely love it! 🙂
This photo is priceless! Poor Willa. (chuckle)
Pain free beauty tip? A teeny tiny dab of mayo rubbed briskly between your hands and then smoothed over split ends helps calm the frizzies on those humidity-enhanced days. It has the added benefit of leaving behind a micro layer of moisture on dry hands. When someone first told me about this trick, I wrinkled up my nose and said “ewwww”, but despite my initial objections, I’ve resorted to using this one when in a pinch. 🙂
Ntexas99 — On humid days my hair goes into such a frizz mode that I could be the poster child for Brillo Pad. I’m going to give this a whirl — thank you for the tip!
I use this cold eye therapy for itchy eyes. Not frozen, but a cold tomato or apple from the fridge … just 10 minutes, and perhaps, I get a hidden beauty benefit 🙂
Bert — Your comment made me smile 🙂
May I tell you a secret? I used a package of sauerkraut as a facial mask once upon a time. I’d read about it in Teen Magazine. I stretched out on my bed and left it on my face for the recommended 20 minutes. Then I scooped it off and put it in a container and into the refrigerator so I could use it again the next day. That night, not knowing what I’d been doing, my mom served it with dinner.
Janet — Oh my gosh, that’s HYSTERICAL! 🙂
Oh my gosh–that made me laugh, Janet!
Did you ever tell your mom? 😉
I did tell her, Merril, about 40 years later.
