Gemstone Affinities
As the natural ruler of the Zodiac, the lion has a larger-than-life personality. The sun lights up for openhearted Leo and everyone around them. From fire-orange to brownish-red, Carnelian can assist in getting the mind out of mental ruts and back on track for success. It bolsters ambition and drive, reminding the wearer of future goals—hence a powerful decision-making tool. Fire Agate promotes positive expression for an abundant storehouse of energy, while Sunstone has an uplifting spiritual quality that resonates with the generosity and enthusiasm of Leo, bringing out their inherent leadership qualities.

The Moon of Ripening (Jul 23 – Aug 22)
This period is one of warmth and openness. This is the time to open up and bask in the warmth of the declining sun before the labors of the harvest ahead. The influence is one of reflection.

Fire Element
Leo is a fire element—active, self-assertive, creative, energetic, and impatient. They impart spirit and energy.

Fire signs are passionate, loving, confident, and innovative. Fire shapes inspiration. This is the impetuous element of spirit and creative life. The spontaneous fire element is active and outgoing. It’s innovative and initiatory. Fire signs get things moving. They act immediately with verve and confidence. A passionate element, this is the world of inspiration and creativity.

A Fixed Sign
Powerful and expansive—Leos are enthusiastic, generous, and extravagant. Usually dogmatic and fixed in their opinions, they roar for a good cause while inwardly possessing spirituality and deep love.

Zodiac Compatibility
Leos in any relationship are smart, refined, and enjoy reciprocating attention and appreciation, but they’re most compatible with Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius.

Famous Leo’s
Sandra Bullock (Jul 26), Robert De Niro (Aug 17), and Robert Redford (Aug 18).

  1. I really don’t know any Leos well. I’m on the cusp with Leo, though, and have been told I have some Leo characteristics. Very interesting, as always, Laurie.

  2. Laurie my sweet son is a Leo and he definitely roars for a good cause. He is the kid that stops playing on the soccer field if he sees someone is hurt and goes to check on them, regardless of what is happening in the game. 🙂

  3. I too am on the cusp with Leo but it does not really describe me well – My natal chart readers have always found me confusing to assess. I think when I was in High School I was quite a performer and when singing my Leo moment came forth. I am not very high energy any more.

Library Girl’s boyfriend was definitely a LEO – going all the time, definitely, he was exhausting to be around sometimes….and making commitments were not a priority for him – the star of every moment.

  4. I’ve had two Leo’s that stick out in my head – “stick” being the key operative word. As in poked with stick. I’m sure there are lovely Leo’s out there though. The two I knew were a little rough on this butterfly/crab.

This is a fun trip thru the Zodiac!

    • Susan – Yowza! That’s so different from my experience (and that’s what makes the world go round). I’ve never met a Leo that I didn’t like. I’m glad you’re enjoying this trip through the Zodiac, thank you for letting me know 🙂

  5. As I told you this morning, the Leo is a perfect description of my sweet, smart, competent, loving and beautiful cousin, Beverly (of blessed memory). Thank you for another reminder of all her remarkable attributes!

  6. I almost married a Leo. His name was Richard and we were together back when my daughter was 2 and 3 years old, so long before Jonathan came into my life! Anyway, Richard was a very loving person. He was conscientious and reliable and a lawyer. However, he wanted a large family and I knew that I really did not want any more children. It was all I could do to raise Bethany. So, we went our separate ways. He married another lady and has 3 children now. I don’t regret any of my decisions, and I am glad to have known him.

    • Barbara – I did marry a Leo. He’s more of the “kitten” side of Leo as opposed to the “lion” side (but can certainly “roar” when appropriate). You clearly made the right decision because you now have (drum roll please) Jonathan in your life – whoohoo!

  7. I have a friend that I have known since high school, back when we used to ask “So, what is your sign?”. He is a very intelligent and meticulous person, he used to help me with my drafting homework. Today he is an architect, still married to his high school sweetheart and a pillar in his church community. When I think of Leo personalities my mind always tracks to him.

  8. The most important Leo in my life by far and away is my Mom, who passed away in the Spring of 2003 at the age of 72, from lung cancer. Yes she was a smoker until age 60, and even quitting didn’t stop the disease from coming on later. My mother’s birthday is August 17.

My mom was absolutely the following:

    Self-assertive
    Faithful and Loving
    Impatient
    Personable and domineering
    Extreme outgoing personality

Her loss is still felt way more deeply than I can express here.
