Laurie picking up Ford F150 Super Cab
I burned a great CD for left-lane driving as I make my way back home from Encinitas, California in the Ford F150 truck we just purchased from my dad. I also brought an assortment of books on CD—suspense novels—to keep me bright-eyed and bushy tailed.
I know the route I’m taking, but I don’t have a pre-determined set of stops; I’m driving by the seat of my pants—with GPS and road maps. Each morning before I hit the road I’ll take a photo of where I’m at and do a quick blog post so you can ride shotgun on this adventure. This morning we leave Barstow – in the foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains.

I’ve been doing the audio book thing lately – a lot on Thomas Cromwell, Henry VIII and the dissolution of the monasteries – rawk n roll – but maybe that works on the smaller British roads.
However, I do believe your roads – regardless of how long, straight and empty they may be, are slower – lower speed limits – or are you permitted to do 70mph?

Most of where I traveled today was posted 75mph, but there were a few spots where it was actually posted at 80mph — that was a neat surprise!

Hi, Laurie — a pick-em-up-truck! Great decision. I owned one for about ten years, moved from Texas to Maryland in it, and then had to retire it about 4 years ago. I still have the Texas license plates, though. I actually had them framed. They say “Texas Truck.”
That’s all that needs to be said . . .
