Leapin' Leprechauns!

Recently we were invited by Kayley and our son to visit their booth at a Spring Craft Fair in Palatine, Illinois. This was no small event. When we arrived, Len and I had to divide and conquer to find them. He found them first and when he backtracked to get me he said, “You’re not going to believe it!”

Rounding the corner, I could see what he meant. Leapin’ Leprechauns! They looked adorable manning the booth in their festive garb.

Thirty-one years ago today, Len and I eloped on St Patrick’s Day. I assure you that my parents had a wee bit more to say than Leapin’ Leprechauns! As it turns out, they didn’t have anything to worry about. I did, indeed, find a pot of love at the end of the rainbow and everyone lived happily ever after…

You eloped? On St. Patricks Day? Ohmygoodness! I would have never thought you the eloping sort! Leapin’ Leprechauns! The last time I saw a leprechaun was a few years ago. No, maybe that was one of the Little People. They were small people~not green. So, the answer is Never. I have never seen a leprechaun. Maybe today?

  Kathy – Planning for a wedding, regardless of the size, is simply not my cuppa tea. It was way more fun to throw a big party for our friends and family afterwards–nobody had to get dressed up (no pantyhose), and everyone could relax and simply enjoy themselves.

I think my puppy is a leprechaun – I put a green kerchief on him this morning and just about every other block he had to stop and enjoy the view – to get my heart rate up I had to pick him up and carry him for a couple of blocks – 14 pounds of happy and charm – I think he qualifies.

I am inviting folks over on Patricias Wisdom today because I put up the story and pictures of my cousins weaving project – it is very amazing work, and I think the boy just might be a messenger of good luck…

    My grandparents were married nearly 70 years on 14th of February – that was before it became Valentine’s Day! The social worker called to tell us our youngest daughter was ours on March 17th 25 years ago…a very lucky day for all concerned 🙂

My father,’s who’s name is Patrick, celebrates his birthday tomorrow. Needless to say, I’ve never missed one of his birthdays, as reminders are always everywhere !!!

Congratulations, Laurie, on yet another trip around the sun, with the man you married. Staying married, often requires effort. I once counseled a friend, that there is always something “imperfect” but that if there is “quality”, it is worth working through “the issues”.

  Barbara K. – It was a mutual agreement. Neither one of us is “formal” — at all — and the thought of wedding garb and all that goes with it just gave us the heebie jeebies. We literally wore jeans, tennis shoes, and t-shirts. We’re going to a wedding on Coronado Island (southern California) in a few weeks and I’ve been agonizing over what to wear. I think I’m going to wear a “tea length” dress so I don’t have to wear pantyhose 🙂

Faith and begorahh, Dearie, and will you look at the pair of them! Aye, 2 of the Wee People to grace your St. Paddy’s Day remembrances, how lucky can you be? Must have been Shamrocks hidden your Bridal bouquet! What a fine young lad and lassie, to be greeting one and all at the Fair, the Faeries have surely taken a hand with raising of him, just look at the great size of him! Happy Wedding Anniversary to you both! I, my self, have seen no leprechauns at all this day although there are a couple of quiet gnomes puttering about the Garden.

Happy Anniversary Laurie! Another thing we have in common. I was once married on St. Patrick’s Day (my 2nd husband) and of course David and I eloped surprising our collection of eight children.

I think leaping leprechauns of love is a great way of thinking about you and Len!

The last leaping leprechaun I saw was Josie doing leaping leprechaun kicks as she skipped down a hiking trail a few years ago.

No wonder this day is so special to you Laurie, though I’d assumed there would be fair sense your blood was at least partially green! But what a great and funny anecdote! It’s funny but I did see a ‘leprechaun’ just yesterday in ‘illustrated’ form while reading Gerald McDermott’s “Tim O’Toole and the Wee Folk” to two of my classes. I never fail to use it every year on Green Day:

My five kids have some Irish blood, although as a 100% Italian-American I do not. Lucille is 3/4 Italian and one-quarter Irish-English (Her mother’s mother was a ‘Hughes.’)
