Hysterical Girls Night Out Story

Cuckoo Clock by Egon Witte

Cuckoo Clock by Egon Witte

I can’t take credit for this funny story. It was passed along to me, via email, and to my knowledge, the source is unknown.

The other night I was invited out for a night with the “girls.” I told my husband that I’d be home by midnight, “I promise.”

Well, the hours passed and the margaritas went down way too easily. Around 3am—a bit loaded—I headed for home.

Just as I got in the door, the cuckoo clock in the hallway started up and cuckooed 3 times.

Quickly, realizing my husband would probably wake up, I cuckooed another 9 times.

I was really proud of myself for coming up with such a quick-witted solution in order to escape a possible conflict with him. Even when totally smashed, 3 cuckoos plus 9 cuckoos equals 12 cuckoos—midnight!

The next morning my husband asked me what time I’d gotten in. I told him “Midnight.” He didn’t seem angry in the least.

Whew, I got away with that one! Then he said, “We need a new cuckoo clock.”

When I asked him why, he said, “Well, last night our clock cuckooed 3 times, then said, ‘Oh shit!’ It cuckooed 4 more times, cleared its throat, then cuckooed another 3 times, giggled, cuckooed twice more, and then tripped over the coffee table.”

  1. This story is very funny and proves that honesty is always the best policy. My husband sleeps so soundly that he hears nothing during the night. I must be old because now my dinners with girlfriends rarely include alcohol and we are home by 10 pm.

Laurie, I am enjoying drinking tea from my HolEssence cup. It Is a great shape for wrapping my hands around on a cold day.
    Have.a great week

    • Chris – I’m so glad you’re enjoying your HolEssence bistro mug. It does have the perfect shape for wrapping ones hands around. When we purchased our building we bought 300 hundred of those mugs and have used them as take-homes for students who attend all-day classes and workshops. This last Reiki Level 1 class was the very end of them. In other words, you’re 1 of 300 people on this planet who have a HolEssence bistro mug — enjoy!

    • Ted – I’m glad that you and Ailsa got a kick out of it. Please tell Ailsa that I’m still in “Princess Mode” — wearing my gorgeous button necklace again today. Len swears that if my head gets any bigger he’s either going to have to build an addition, or hold my head under water ’til the bubbles stop!

  2. LOL!!!!! Well Laurie, as I was reading this I was thinking, no this can’t be Laurie, but then again I realized this was passed down for a laugh. And I got more than that in the end!!!

  3. This story was an absolute riot, Laurie. Thanks for sharing it. I am one of those lightweight drinkers who can have ONE glass of wine with a meal and be okay, but give me a second one and I will be asleep in 30 minutes. I admire anyone who can stay up until 3:00 a.m. It is already 19 minutes past my bedtime right now.

    • Barbara – I’m a lightweight drinker too. And if I’m going our with others, I’m almost always the designated driver because I can just as easily do without.

  4. Laurie as usual when I start howling with laughter, David wants to know what is going on. So I read your post out loud. I had to read the ending three times because I was laughing so hard he couldn’t understand what I was saying.

There is nothing better than a great laugh. Seems to loosen up things I didn’t even know were wound tight. Laurie, you are the best!

    • Terrill – It happened exactly the same way when I read it out loud to Len. By the time the whole thing was said and done we were both rolling on the floor with laughter and had tears rolling down our faces (that’s why I decided to post it). I’m so glad that you and David enjoyed it too 🙂

  7. Damn, Laurie! I haven’t knowingly missed one of your posts in years and then you go and write this one! Why didn’t you drop me hint, ” oh, I have bruises all over my shins from trashing the coffee table last night!” I will say this much, I’m glad that I am not required to do any heavy thinking here, just a good, deep, belly laugh and the thought, ” been there, done that…”

    • Sandi – I’m so glad you enjoyed the funny story. Len and I howled with laughter when I first received it via email. I wish I knew who to give the creative credit to.
