MASTER NUMBER 22
The Path of the Builder

The 22 is a highly charged version of the 4 and all characteristics that apply for number 4 also apply for number 22. The characteristics represented by number 4 usually are enhanced in the master number 22.

The Master Number 22 person is pragmatic; they’re a doer, capable of spinning dreams into concrete reality. If you’ve 22 in your chart, you have tremendous potential for success—that’s because you’ve all of the insight and intuition of the number 11, paired with a grounded and scientific approach associated with the number 4. Master Number 22 is an ambitious, but disciplined number.

The 22 person has lofty goals that they bring down to earth and make into a reality; something tangible. They also have leadership and confidence. Your goals are outside of your personal self as you strive to serve the greater good of humanity. You have a great depth of spiritual understanding and the ability to apply knowledge in a practical way—an unbeatable combination that usually produces tremendous success.

It can take someone with this number well into their adulthood before they manifest their dreams because they have to go through trials and learning experiences before they mature enough to incorporate their true calling in their life.

The Shadow Side
If not practical, the 22’s waste their potential. Like the 11, the 22 can easily shrink from their own ambition, causing difficult interior pressures. Both the 11 and the 22 experience the pressure-cooker effect, particularly at an early age. They strive toward the realization of goals that are larger than personal ambition. The 22 serves the world in a practical way.

Unfortunately, not everyone with a 22 in their chart is practical—this is symbolized by the brilliant person you might know who doesn’t “live up to” their potential. This is the danger of both 11 and 22—though both are capable of greatness, they can shy away from great opportunities or apply too much pressure to themselves.

If you have 22 in your chart, ease up and realize your limitless opportunities. Turn down the pressure-cooker and fulfill your shot at serving the world in an effective and practical way.

  2. Hi, Laurie — I am not a master number, which is probably a good thing seeing how it would just complicate my life even more! You have given all of us some very interesting information about numerology and how our time of arrival on Earth influences the course of our lives. This influence is not necessarily “destiny” but rather more of a tendency to lean in a specific direction. Fortunately, we have choice over how we behave no matter what our circumstances are. I am of the mind that we might have chosen this particular time to arrive because these are exactly the issues about ourselves that we chose to work on.

    • Barbara – I so appreciate what you said, “This influence is not necessarily “destiny” but rather more of a tendency to lean in a specific direction.” You hit the nail smack-dab on the head!

  3. Capable of spinning dreams into concrete reality! Sounds like the 22’s are very blessed indeed, should they choose to do so. I am thinking “highly charged” could be a blessing or a bigger challenge. The more the charge, the more challenging bringing that energy down into action can be. Have a good day, Laurie!

  4. Laurie, your conch shell is luminous and sublime – I can see why it’s your prize! When Tim went to Key Largo to visit his brother one winter he came home with one similar to yours – he was quite taken with it. I found a special spot for it in the curio cabinet…

    • BarbaraTim’s Key Largo conch sounds wonderful. I had so much fun finding mine on Eleuthera Island. My other prize conch shell (that I find during the same trip) is pure white (an albino) that fits in the palm of my hand. It, too, is exquisite!

  5. Laurie, having looked at David and Missy with new eyes since I’ve read about the “numbers game” I am astonished at how close to the truth these things are. Missy could be writing for sit-coms, her brain is like a hair-trigger steel trap and her wit is semi-dangerous. I’ ve laughed my self into tears over some of her scenarios, involving home folks who would sue her to the ground if they only knew. David was always the Man with the Plan, I’d never heard him say “I don’t know what to do” until he had kids of his own. They both make things happen, one way or the other. Usually come hell or high water, just move out of the way.

    • Sandi “They both make things happen, one way or the other. Usually come hell or high water, just move out of the way.” It seems to me that you got a giant helping of this too 🙂

  6. what if, when i add the numbers of my birthday one way, they equal 22 and another way they add up to 31? what does that mean? is my life path number a 4 or a 22??? thanks! much love!

    • Jutta – The 22 is a highly charged version of the 4 and all characteristics that apply for number 4 also apply for number 22. The characteristics represented by number 4 usually are enhanced in the master number 22.

      • So, are you saying that the Master Builder destiny is not applicable at all to someone who’s Birth Day is on the 22? If so, could you explain why for I have been completely identifying with it for most of my life. Thanks!

      • Mark – Being born the the 22nd day of any month means that your birthday number is 22. Here’s what that means:

Being born on the 22nd day of the month (4 energy), you sometimes employ unorthodox approaches, you’re capable of handling large scale undertakings, assuming great responsibility, and working long and hard towards their completion. Often, especially in the early part of life, there’s rigidity or stubbornness, and a tendency to repress feelings. Idealistic, you work for the greater good with a good deal of inner strength and charisma. You’re an extremely capable organizer, but likely to paint with broad strokes rather than detail. You’re extremely aware and intuitive. You’re subject to a good deal of nervous tension.

But being born on the 22nd day of any month does not mean that you are a Master number. Again, the entire birthday must be added into the equation (month, day, year).

  7. Thank you but could you explain why that is the case. That interpretation sounds pretty much like it is drawn from the Master Builder interpretation so that is one thing that is confusing. The other is that in a search on over 20 different numerology websites, I can’t find one that directly says that if you are born on the 11th or 22nd of any month that the master number interpretations do not apply.

    • Mark

It doesn’t seem as if my responses are satisfying to you. In light of that, you may want to (as you suggested) not only visit other websites (I’m certainly not the final authority on this topic), but there are some great books on this topic as well.

      Listen with your heart,

      – Laurie

  8. I just watched a program that peeked my interest a bit in these numbers as I had never heard about them before. For laughs, I searched and found information on how to get this supposed numbers and then of course I found my own. I am a little shaken from having watched this program and now having learned what I have learned about my own number. Apparently I am a 22 and when reading about the number 22 and 4 I found it to be an uncanny match for who I see myself as. Thinking it was a bunch of mumbo jumbo I read other numbers designations and found them not to be good descriptions of who I see myself as. I have to be honest, its a bit unsettling. I have been doing a lot of searching for answers in many places. Science, spirtitual awakening and all of it is starting to come together like a jig saw puzzle. The thing that has me shaken is that its starting to become clear there is an under lying pattern to everything that connects everything. Its clear there is an order rather than chaos. The only way there can be order is by design.
When I say design I do not mean God in the traditional sense most people think about. I believe the bible is false, that it leads people away from the truth whatever it may be. However, it is clear there is a design in what we as humans can see. The question is, what is it and what part do we play in it.
I do not suspect I will be back to this site. I just had to tell someone.

    • Eventhorizon – Thank you for for your visit and comment at Speaking from the Heart. In my experience, it’s good to “shaken, not stirred” every now and again. I understand you won’t be back to this site again. Travel light, travel fast.

  9. Sorry one last thing. I really like your quote, “Whatever you are not changing you are chosing.” Is that your own? How long ago did you think of it? I think that is an amazing bit of insight, very profound for many reasons. Ill just say the first and foremost I consider myself a scientist. What we are just begining to understand in science is that everything at its base is made up of energy. Its pretty interesting to see the mind being realized as having more of a connection with the universe than ever known.

    • Eventhorizon – Yes, it’s mine. I’m 54 now…so four years ago on my 50th birthday I went away by myself on a hermitage to “The Llama Foundation” in New Mexico. That wee bit of wisdom popped into my noggin’ during that time of reflection 🙂 And I oh-so-agree with your take on energy.

      • Yeah I know I said I wouldnt be back. As a funny story when I got up the next morning I was still thinking about what I learned about the numbers. I went back to double check my math and found out I had it wrong. Im not really a 22 but a 9. Strangley in reading about 9s, I dont really relate to that number’s defintion at all. No big deal, numbers are just numbers in my mind. Still its odd how connected I felt to the defintion of 22… I wonder why that is? After trying to find information on numbers in general, I find that so many people seem to say the same. They feel as if 22 or 4 describes them better then their real number. Is it because thats what I want to believe or something else? I have been searching for answers to… wait for it…. (life the universe and everything) ever since I can remember. When I was very young I became interested in how things worked so I took everything apart (clocks, radios etc.)and then I started taking the universe apart in my mind with what I learned in books. Within the last couple of years I have learned more and more about quantum theroy. Since then, I feel as if the pieces of the puzzle have come together. Why go to the length to mention this here? Well… I guess because this is the site I first found that explained the numbers. Also Laurie after finding this site, you at least seem to have part of the answers I have found. I know its probably a lot to ask. If you have time I wonder if you could consider the following. The answer I have found fits, it makes sense. Its not a total answer but it is certainly a large part of it. Still the answer doesnt help me with anything here. It doesnt help me become rich, happy or anything. Its just an answer that fits. Its like having a truth where the only thing you get out of it, is the truth. Every human is driven to get out of bed every morning. Those that lose that drive fade away. Why? Have you figured out what our purpose is yet? Have you figured out why its so important to know our purpose, why we are driven to find it? If you have time to respond great. If not, I understand and I am sorry to have bothered you. You cant ever know anything unless you ask questions and ask them to many people with many perspectives.

      • Eventhorizon – I’m glad you came back, and I apologize for the delayed response. Yesterday (April 26) I was one of 80 people invited to have lunch with the Dalai Lama while he was in Chicago. I will be blogging about the experience this coming Tuesday.

Can I explain why you feel more drawn to 22/4 than 9? No.
Do I have all of the answers? No.

You asked if I’ve figured out my purpose in life yet. Yes. My purpose is to be a channel for grace (my definition of grace being “the immediate presence of spirit”).

  10. Hi, my name is Christina I was born 01/20/1990 my life path number is 22. I have always had an interest in Zodiacs and Numerology, this is the first article I’ve read that gave me some insight into why I may feel my emotions so intensely. As of late, I have really been struggling internally, so much so that I have scheduled to meet with a psychiatrist. I do have somewhat of a perfectionist streak and I apply tons of pressure on myself. I am particular about how I want to become successful and I have dreams that larger than life, but feel very obtainable. Do you have any recommendations on where I can look for some guidance? My family thinks my dynamic moods and behavior are due to some sort of hormonal imbalance. I’m leaning more towards mental/behavioral issues and of course spiritual or (higher conscious) issues. I’ve been quite self-destructive as of late and for the first time in a while Im scared of myself, im guessing it has to do with the times but I need to get a handle on this before I check into the crazy house. I have little interest in “earthly” things like work, money etc. I seem to always think in future tense but I seriously need some balance, its seems like my goals are driving me crazy and I dont want to waste my potential, what should I do? what books to read or people to see?????

    • Christina – Not knowing anything about you (even your geographic location) beyond what you’ve shared here (“I have been quite self-destructive and for the first time in a while I’m scared of myself”), my recommendation is that you seek counseling immediately. If you call a suicide hotline, a trained person will be able to speak with you, and additionally provide you with information for a qualified professional.

In the United States the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline number is 1-800-273-8255

  11. Im not suicidal. I do think about death as a peaceful thing, but I can’t imagine taking my own life. maybe my wording was a tad dramatic, I just meant that I have been snappy and quite impulsive and its effecting some of my relationships. I just feel like living life to maintain what I have is keeping me from being able to do what I feel needs to be done for my goals. And the less I’m doing to pursue my goals, the more I loose confidence in myself. I just need to find out whats been going on with me internally, and I’m looking for answers in every avenue. Do you know any books that might be helpful, or are there professionals that practice numerology or astrology I may be able to speak to?

    • Koi, I also am a 22 life path. I wanted to recommend an author to you who has written 2 books that have been extremely helpful to me in understanding what might very well be happening to me. Some of the feelings you are experiencing I myself have gone through as well. I do believe there is more to life than what meets the eye, and I believe 22’s have a difficult challenge in discovering for themselves what that exactly is. The author’s name is Rasha. The book titles are “Oneness” & “The Calling.” I read “Oneness” for the first time back in 2008 and found that much of what the book described, I in fact was experiencing. I just recently read “The Calling,” and for me it was like a summary to everything I have gone through in the past 7 years. The search is long, the journey can be difficult, but I believe that it will be worth the effort in the end. I hope this might be helpful to you.

    • Bangs – I’m a certified Pythagorean Numerologist. There are two other types: Chaldean and Kabbalah. Quite possibly your method is from one of the two that are out of my area of expertise.

  12. Thanks Laurie for confirming. I always wondered why I felt this way with no bridge in sight to get where I want to be. I’m currently reading Dan Millman and now looking into Rasha from the above messages. Hopefully I can find harmony.

  13. I’m 43 yrs old, married white male and actually began a path of self discovery 2 yrs ago after an accident. It has taken me many places (here among them on several occasions). My MBTI type before the accident was INTJ (1% -3% of the population), and an enneagram Type 1. My Life Path is 22/4. Having always felt called for a purpose, I now begin to understand why I’ve felt that way. I have looked into quantum physics and the thing we call reality and it’s response to our intention. I have dove deep into the archetypes, eastern / western psychological non-dual expression, and have begun to see life for the beautiful presence that it is. I still fall back into ego under stress which I am surrounded by. Consistent meditation practice has allowed me to resonate with what “is” on varying levels.

My question (I have many!) surrounds the chakra energy centers. I have felt energy move during meditation on it’s own and under intention. I am convinced it is there along with many other multidimensional aspects that are invisible to my eyes. Do you believe it is possible to see such things?

Life has become a wonderful journey. I enjoy your website.

      • Ed Wheat –

        Your question:
I have felt energy move during meditation on it’s own and under intention. I am convinced it is there along with many other multidimensional aspects that are invisible to my eyes. Do you believe it is possible to see such things?

        My Answer:
        Yes, I most certainly do.

Note: I am a Holistic Health Practitioner, board certified with the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. Part of my role includes working with the body’s energy via meridians (energy lines), or chakras (energy stations).

  15. Hello, my birthdate is 25/01/1967, I always added it up to make 4. I recently attended a very interesting talk by a leading UK numerologist who showed us the method of adding the numbers downwards, like a sum i.e 25
    01
    1967
    ——-
    1993 =1+9+9+3=22

which he said meant I wasn’t a 4, but a Mater number 22. I must say this meant perfect sense as I have never resonated with 4 but I was taken aback that have been under an apparent misapprehension all my life! I don’t understand how one method can lead to one number, and another a completely different one. What is your take on this please?

    • Lynne –

There are two ways to calculate:

      01 + 25 + 1967 = 1993. Now to reduce the sum: 1 + 9 + 9 + 3 = 22

      1 + 2 + 5 + 1 + 9 + 6 + 7 = 31. Now to reduce the sum: 3 + 1 = 4

A Master Number (in your case, 22) always “trumps” a Life Path number. And remember, ALL Master Numbers (11, 22, and 33) also have the corresponding attributes of a Life Path Number:

Master Number 11 has the additional attributes of Life Path 2
Master Number 22 has the additional attributes of Life Path 4
Master Number 33 has the additional attributes of Life Path 6

  16. Many thanks Laurie – glad to have it confirmed…..now to figure out what my purpose is! Always, always thought since I was little that I was on a mission to empower others in some way, but still not quite sure how to go about it. I realise my biggest problem is lack of self belief.
