… to share photos from the blizzard that swept through the midwest last night.
Here in Crystal Lake, IL — about an hour north of Chicago — we woke up to a panorama of wind-whipped snow this morning. And because we rescheduled all of our clients, we’re finding it fun. For those folks who have to make their way into work…yowza!
According to the weather service, we received approximately 17-inches of snow in the last 24-hours. Needless to say, all of the schools are closed today and the salt trucks and plows are busily at work.

On a work conference call right now and there are a lot of operations things going on….then will sleep a little.

Gosh, Len looks like Father Christmas out there! I am goggle-eyed at the sight of so much snow, or let me rephrase that, so much shoveling! Thank Goodness you and Len stay in good physical shape, I take that this will not melt away by tomorrow……
Wow, that’s a lot of snow.
We are not getting any snow this year. In past years we have been able to cross country ski right outside our garage door and ski around the lake. But not this year, we are getting very cold temperature but no snow.
Settle in have a cup of tea and stay warm.

We really are on opposite sides of the world.
Yesterday we had a NW winds, and 34C (92F). Even out in the wind it was hot!
Now Northern Queensland (Australia) has the largest tropical cyclone in it’s history (a Cat 5 monster with an eye wall 20 miles across).
Last week my sister and her husband had their cafe flooded when the valley behind them had 6 1/2 inches of rain overnight.
Definitely a year for extreme weather events.
They happen from time to time.
Trust you and Len and “the kids” are warm and well fed.

Hi, Laurie! Thanks for sharing your winter wonderland with us. I kept watching the weather channel, worried that you and Len would get buried under ten feet of snow. It sounds as though you are surviving well. You are SO smart to have that wood stove to keep you company in case the power goes out. We managed to miss most of this storm . . . which is a good thing because we had more than our fair share last February. Take care. Keep warm.
That is one heckofalot of snow, Laurie! Brrrrr…. Can’t believe the Chicago area has been buried under so much of the white stuff. Heard it broke a record for snow in February since the early 1900’s. Funny how many of the storms are going south of us this year. Enjoy it! 🙂

Daisy – And it’s snowing again, today! Oh well, the shoveling makes for an excellent workout (a great way to burn calories just in time for those Super Bowl snacks).

This has been the norm for the past six weeks in the NYC area, what with four major storms and a few less severe. But this is a whopper here Laurie, and the pictures well document the full thrust of Father Winter in this lovely Crystal Lake setting. I hope by now you and Len have gotten a grip on the situation.
The winter of 2010-11 won’t ever be forgotten. Ot at least until next year! Ha!
Sam – I think your geographic neck-of-the-woods has not only been hit harder, but many more times than we have. This has been a DOOZIE of a snow season for you folks.
