Life Path 5
The Path of the Seller
Freedom is your proudest possession and you’ll allow no one to interfere with it. This sense of freedom manifests itself in constant pursuit of adventure. Your natural wit, enthusiasm, and boundless energy make this possible.
You’re not always consistent in your temperament—experiencing great highs and lows—you’re sometimes docile and sometimes in a black temper. However, this variance of mood always implies a chameleon-like intellect that can match the mood of the times, advancing or remaining static as the situation demands.
You thoroughly enjoy everything that goes on in this great universe called life. Your interest, combined with your wit and sense of humor, makes you the center of attraction of any group. Words are gems you enjoy giving to those around you. Language is your currency—the means by which you express all you’ve learned and experienced. Though usually humorous, you’re by no means merely a clown. You take pleasure in serious subjects and express yourself well, but take care to show your mastery of language only in areas where your knowledge is complete. You can easily misinform people because your way of expressing yourself can hold them captive, and they often believe anything you have to say.
Making excellent use of all the senses, you’re sensual in thought and action. This results in a magnetic quality that draws people to you. Should you venture into subjects you know little about, you may find yourself in an extremely embarrassing position. Once made to look foolish, you’ll be hard-pressed to vindicate yourself and you’ll not command the attention you’re used to and fond of.
Sarcasm and humor—though assets—can also be weapons when used against someone unable to compete; someone without your command of rhetoric. Take care to control your thoughts; channel them carefully into positive areas to further yourself and your career. You have a tendency toward involving yourself in too many areas at one time, especially when your vivid imagination takes over. When you consolidate your thoughts and efforts, you reap the most benefits.
Be prepared for quick and frequent changes—moves and travel. Accept these changes with a spirit of adventure and keep moving. Yours isn’t a life of steadiness, in any case, so leave each place or relationship with no regrets. Seek all of the new experiences you can find and store the knowledge gained for future use. Learn languages and use them wherever you can. The ingenuity and adaptability you’ve been endowed with allow you to wring more pleasure out of every situation—giving you double the rewards.
The Life Path 5 suggests that you entered this plane with a highly progressive mindset, with the attitude and skills to make the world a better place. The keyword for your Life Path is freedom. In the pursuit of freedom, you’re naturally versatile, adventurous, and advanced in your thinking. You’re one of those people strives to find answers to the many questions that life poses. The bywords for the positive Life Path 5 are constant change and improvement. You want to be totally unrestrained, as this is the number most frequently associated with the productive use of freedom.
You may be one of the most compassionate of people as the 5 is surely the most freedom-loving and compassionate Life Path. Your love of freedom extends to humanity at large, and concern for your fellow man, his freedom, and his welfare, may be foremost in your mind. As the ultimate progressive thinker type, your potential in government, law, the military, and other positions of authority is unlimited.
You’re an excellent communicator and you know how to motivate people. This may be your strongest and most valuable trait. Because of this skill, and your amazing wit, you’re a truly natural born salesperson. The ability to sell and motivate extends to any sort of physical product, all the way through to whatever ideas or concepts you embrace.
You loathe boring work, and chafe at mundane tasks. It’s important for you to find a job that provides thought-provoking responsibilities. You do best dealing with people, but the important thing is that you have the flexibility to express yourself at all times. You have an innate ability to think through complex matters and analyze them quickly, and then be off-and-running onto a new challenge. Generally speaking, the number 5 personality is rather happy-go-lucky—living for today—and not over-worried about tomorrow.
A love of adventure dominates your life. This may take the form of mental or physical manifestation, but in either case, you thrill to the chance for exploration and blazing new trails. As a Life Path 5, you belong to a group considered the most worldly and traveled. Clearly, you’re not one to pass up a good adventure. You have a healthy dose of the risk-taker in your makeup; the conservative approach stands in second place.
In romance, you hate to be tied down and restricted. This doesn’t at all mean that you’re unfaithful or promiscuous. It means that a good partner for you needs to understand your nature. A relationship based on jealousy and having tight reigns isn’t going to work for you—at all. A partner who understands your need to be free and trusted will find you trustworthy, even if you aren’t constantly available and totally dutiful. It’s important for you to mix with like-minded people, and to spend less time with those who are constraining and demanding.
The Shadow Side
Your shadow-side encourages fickleness, jealousy, depression, and a vicious temper. You also make impulsive decisions that can be harmful. You tend more toward doing exactly what you want, rather than what’s good for you. Your constant need for change in relationships, jobs, homes, and other areas often leaves you out on a limb, and you find yourself having to start all over again.
People with a 5 Life Path generally become writers, actors, linguists, or “front” people involved in advertising, public relations—anything that deals with words or discussions. Knowing this helps you to save every tidbit of knowledge you glean from life and use it in one way or another in the above professions.
If you’re living on the negative side of the Life Path 5, you’re apt to be multi-talented, but suffer from a lack of direction that results in confusion surrounding your ambition. Restless, discontent, and impulsive, you may bounce from one job to the next without accomplishing much. A negative Life Path 5 can become irresponsible in tasks and decisions concerning home and business. The total pursuit of sensation and adventure can result in a Life Pat 5 that self-indulgent and totally unaware of the feelings of those around them.

Thank heaves I have mostly lived on the positive side of Life Path 5. Even with dyslexia I seem to find the words to write what I need. It is interesting that this past year and a half have limited my physical freedom but I have been able to stretch and expand my creative freedom which has been extremely satisfying.
I must admit that I get very excited when I meet other positive Life Path fives. Sometimes it has felt a bit lonely when I am the one changing jobs, locations, homes, and partners. It is like normal people are more stable and don’t squirm if a small amount of their freedom is snipped or someone clings or is demanding.
Then I meet another five like you and Alison and it makes me giggle and laugh deep inside. There is an immediate intuitive recognition – it is like we have know each other forever… the details are of our individual lives seem like lace on the garment of our living – beautiful but not really necessary.

Terrill – Like you, my heart does a little pitty-pat when I find other positive life path 5’s. It’s like being washed over by a harmonic wave that simply “clicks” — or as you said, an “immediate intuitive recognition.”

Wow, I find this very interesting. First of all, because I find the text / description fascinating, and also that you will rarely find many people you know in your top groups of compatibility. i.e. what I mean is that some are compatible, but as ‘close’ or ‘neutral’ and I think we all know who is and isn’t compatible in this intuitive way. I do feel a strong affinity with Life Path Number 9 also, fairly compatible with 5 and the kind of idealist, world-saving personality with the environment and survival at closest interest. Being a Double Aquarian in a time of 2012~ the end of the Mayan Calender and all that, it is an exciting time for me to be alive!! No doubt, not a ride through the park, but interesting nonetheless.
Interesting also, because the post above and your comment here were posted on 27th January 2011, which is also my birthday. All in all, I think a 5 (if I can generalise) will feel at home with like-minded people and less, anywhere else.

Um, interesting as always. It may be very helpful to have everyone were a sign with their number clearly visible. Then you know–okay so that person values this. In order to understand them I have to try and see this. If we don’t get along because I’ve used too much of this from my number…or maybe because they’ve used too much of this from their number. It can’t help but be helpful.
Leanne – You’ve put a face-splitting grin on my face with your idea of everyone wearing their number. We’d immediately know who to rush up to, and who to give a wide berth to 🙂
OK, I could be a five. Especially the part about language being the currency. And the adventure. And the humorous part…and maybe (OK) a little sarcasm which needs to be monitored at all times. So interesting!
Kathy – I think you’re the “Pot Pourri Life Path” — I just made that up, but it seems to suite you perfectly — a bit of this and a dash of that!
I like that, Laurie–Pot Pourri Life Path! My goal has been to open up to the All, to all of life. To realize something which encompasses all of the life paths…to realize the larger self which encompasses all of it. (OK, repeating self, trying to articulate this.) Part of my challenge has been allowing or accepting that a shard–a single life path–is as much a shining part of the All as encompassing all of it. OK, back to doing dishes. Hope you could understand what I’m trying to express.

This is very strange, I know you said that you were a 5, now Terrill is a 5 yet you seem to be some of the stable-minded people I know of! Okay, witty – yes. Wordsmiths – yes. Bad-tempered when crossed – I’m going to leave it right here and take your word for it, although I have seen you in written action and my mouth fell open. I see that you are with a good group of people here, Ron Howard is a 5!?! Wow!
Sandi – I think Terrill would be the first to agree that while 5’s wear a halo and walk on water (said with tongue in cheek), we can equally be full-fledged stinkers! And trust me, no one (no one!) wants to be on the receiving end of a 5 when we’ve got a burr in our britches!
I will second all of that Laurie! I am real easy going until someone crosses my bottom line… then I really don’t know any such words as “back up.” Might even put a terrier to shame. The biggest, stinkiest thing I do is to think that the most important game in town is the one I am playing. My savings grace is I love people and am genuinely curious about what others are doing.
I also cannot hardly EVER make myself do something I don’t want to do. If I can’t find a way to reframe a task to my liking, it is a matter of leaving it or paying someone else to do it. Hence, I have paid someone else to fill out my tax forms since I first filed at the age of 14 years old. Don’t even waste your breath telling me I have nothing complicated to file and it is just a matter of punching the right numbers into the right places on the computerized form. No thanks. But the quirky thing is I would never NOT file my taxes. I usually get the books organized in December.
Terrill – Are you sure we weren’t separated at birth? You made me smile when you said, “Might even put a terrier to shame” because I oh-so-relate 🙂 I can make myself do things that I abhor, but there’s no one else under God’s blue sky who can. I detest being told what I can and can’t do — it gives me the willies just thinking about it.
Hi, Laurie — both January and Jonathan are 5’s and much of what you wrote fits them both as well as the need to compromise in order to get along with me (a 6). Both of them enjoy talking about any subject even if they only have a minimal amount of knowledge about it and both are very adaptable to any circumstance. Neither one of them is much of a housekeeper, though, but I love them anyway.
Barbara – You’ve got lovely 5 bookends in your life — Jonathan and January. Ahhhh, to be in the middle of them has bot to be like being the white stuff between the Oreo cookies 🙂 When it comes to housekeeping 5’s are across the board. There’s the Messy Bessie’s and the Neat Pete’s. I fall in the neat category (but am married to the opposite, with one caveat — Len’s neat and organized in the kitchen).
Barbara, how bad can that be? To be the creme in an Oreo, surrounded by dark chocolate on each side!?! Perfect!

Interesting and provocative aspects of #5, but all in all Laurie, this is a Life Path of intensity (perhaps the most intense so far) and one of extreme progressiveness, and flaming passions. No doubt as a result as you broach it also entails the darkest undercurrents of any so far, but this is an outgrowth of the strong emotions. This is also the most fascinating and intricate writings yet in this amazing series.
Sam – It appears that my neck of the woods is about to get a heavy dose of the snow you folks just endured. Google news predicts we’ll get about 17-inches in the next 48 hours. I sure hope they’re wrong. Interestingly, 5 falls smack dab in the middle of the single-digit numbers. With 1, 2, 3 and 4 on one side, and 6, 7, 8, and 9 on the other. It feels very “at home” for me — a Libra who thrives on balance — being in the middle fits the bill nicely. You’re right as rain about the flaming passions and dark undercurrents of the Life Path 5 🙂

I am 26 and I am a 5. I have a goal and dream, I’ve been in college though for 10yrs due to lack of direction. I know exactley what’s for me now though and I am willing to take the risk I just have to figure out my first move. I’ve lived on the negative side of 5 for a long time, but Reading this has given me encouragement and a tingly feeling because my entire life I’ve felt as though I am going to be famous for something. I know all I have to do is just take the risk.

I’m a lifepath 5 now and have always struggled because my parents stay at the same job and house fo 30 years and I always need change. I’m trying to swim back up to the positive side of 5. People use to call me unstable or “where are you working ..NOW”, type of questions when I am just living.
Kat – I know this is easier said than done, but when someone speaks to you like in your example — “Where are you working…NOW — remember that’s about THEM; it’s THEIR expectation of you. What’s important is how YOU feel about YOU.

wow.. this explains a lot of my personality… it’s like, i’m reading myself in an organized way! lol and while reading some of the people’s comment here (who are number 5) im shocked! this is so intersting.. i’m 18 now and yes, i’m actually in the negative side.. true I got soooooo many plans for my future, country, my family, world issue (and I actually got more than 40 ideas of books that i wanted to write but never started any!) I feel like I want to be in different paths, want to have different careers that I am now stuck and I don’t know how, when or where to start. I felt that nobody’s going to help me, and I’m gonna be like this forever! I actually thought about using drugs because of depression cuz I feel like nobody understands me but thank god i stopped myself! but this kinda inspired me to change. I will try my best, even nobody wants to help me!

So, I’ve just found out I’m a 5 but it doesn’t necessarily describe me fully. My sun sign is Capricorn and I’m more of an introvert. I don’t understand the “freedom” part of my personality. I despise anything that has no structure and I don’t like a lot of change. I’m confused…..

Just like with Zodiac signs for example (there are 12 of them), there are just a few numbers (9 Life Path numbers and 3 Master Numbers) to describe the entire population on the globe – billions of people. Within those limitations, not everything is going to fit like a hand in a glove.
For instance, I’m a Libra. I’m also a Life Path 5. The entire description of either of them does not fit me — and some of it’s absolutely the opposite.
Might I suggest that you embrace the part(s) what you want to live up to; take what will make a better version of you; and weave those things into your life. Let the rest roll off you like water on a duck.

Hi, just found out today that I’m a 5 too! It’s pretty interesting because so much of it seems to fit me perfectly. I’m also a Gemini and see lots of similarities between Gemini and #5’s, just a bit worried about fickleness overload. 😛 Lots of trouble sticking with anything, so I’ve tried to just stop worrying and do whatever seems important to me, instead of what people expect of me, I don’t know yet whether it’ll fix my life but I’ve been much happier for sure since I made the decision. I can really identify with your intentions here. I have about the same ‘modus operandi’ in my life for a long time – always jumping from interest to interest and find it hard to really get anything materialised and rolling i.e. successful and moving by itself. It seems a lot of effort, although the interests are really genuine and give a lot of strength. (I, btw, am a double aquarian!) 😛 lol Good luck!

Like all life path 5, I can’t stay in one place for too long. Not because I’m unfaithful or hate what I’m doing. But it’s more like I’m bored with what I’m doing and yearn for something new!
I was on to thinking to start a blog writing my adventure and journey on my yoga progress.. And came across your blog! Now I’m so going to start writing if it is what I can excel in! 🙂

Well, I gotta say, my 5 son is definitely a 5. He’s 21 and currently reaping the consequences of living on the shadow side. I’m a “stick in the mud” 8 cabby regarding my career, and the parent to grab hold and help support him to step up and into the higher side; it’s a great effort on both our parts. He’s a cabby too, so maybe that’s why we’re working through this together… I’m trying to let go of his situation and develop into a new phase for myself, while he’s really working hard to rise from his state and also find his true calling. Thank you for the insight here Laurie. Both the 5 and 8 summaries are spot on!

So very accurate, the freedom lover, writer – to such an extent that I named my books and website transform to freedom …. in need of constant change: travel, adventure, sensation, freedom.
