LIFE PATH 4
The Path of the Builder

Please note that certain 2’s, 4’s, and 6’s have a “Master Number” associated with their Life Path number; respectively 11, 22, and 33. In Numerology, this is the equivalent to a “special mission” they’ve been sent to fulfill. I’ll cover the Master Numbers at the end of the single-digits, 1-9.The 4-sided square is the symbol of this number and you’ll prove it in everything you do. The square block is the foundation of all things, and that is the course you’ll take—building everything from firm, logical, and lasting foundation.

You won’t reach for the fleeting things of life. Rather, you’ll settle only for those that’ll reward you with lasting benefits. You have a great head for details and can make even the most boring, mundane jobs pay off with a measure of success. You can keep your head when everyone around you loses theirs. Take this for what it’s worth and channel it properly; persevere when others have tired or lost interest and you’ll receive your just rewards.

You must learn to evaluate every idea or product you’re involved with and not get carried away with the “blue sky” aspects of them. Think clearly and stand firm where your logic dictates.  Never a wanderer, you prefer to live and work in one place after you’ve adjusted to it. You work best when you have a sense of permanence to hang onto.

A 4 Life Path is one of justice, equality, and practicality. You’ll spend your lifetime working toward your goal. Even when you attain what you think you want, you’ll go on and lay foundations for other acquisitions. Always working, always building, so goes a 4, but with a great capacity for patience, you’re well prepared for it.

Method, logic, and loyalty are your tools. This combination brings you what you desire. Details, duty, and conservation may restrict you in a sense—except when applied in the most practical way. At times, you find yourself so bogged down with details that you may lose sight of the overall picture.  In that case, it’s wise to allow yourself to flow with the tide and accept the thoughts and opinions of more experienced people. This applies to all arenas—from raising a family, to managing a business, and everything in-between. Insisting that your ideas are the most practical can hinder your progress, so learn to listen and weigh everything before you tell yourself and others that your way is the only way.

Always ready to take on anything, you never shirk your duties. When dependability is required, you’re the ideal candidate. As a mate, this bodes well for your partnership and is a great model for any children you may raise. Life Path 4’s have the wonderful ability to transfer concepts, philosophies, and information to other people; that’s why so many of them make good teachers.

You can take any idea or design and bring it to life. Express yourself whenever the opportunity presents itself, both in business and at home. If you’re a homemaker, you can adapt the design of any decorator or artist and bring beauty and easy living into your home.

The Life Path 4 suggests that you entered this plane with a natural genius for planning, fixing, building, and somehow, with practical application and cerebral excellence, making things work. You’re one of the most trustworthy, practical, and down-to-earth of individuals—the cornerstone members of society. Indeed, as a Life Path 4, you are a builder of society. The cream of the crop in this Life Path can be a master builder in society. If you’re among these highly talented people, you have an idealistic nature which is grounded in practical terms, allowing you to conceive grandiose, far-reaching schemes and carry them through to the end. If you desire and are willing to work for it, you can achieve enormous success, prestige, and fame. Obviously, everyone with a 4 Life Path doesn’t become famous.

People with this Life Path have the ability to take orders and to carry them out with dedication and perseverance, and many 4s live and work happily in this context. But so often, the 4 Life Path is the entrepreneur and manager in the community. In either role, you always demand as much from yourself as you do from others, and sometimes a lot more.

You have the kind of willpower that’s often mistaken for stubbornness. You don’t think of yourself as dogged, but your honest beliefs and that ever-direct speech makes you come across as completely unremitting. Once you’ve made a decision, you follow it through to the conclusion—right, wrong, or indifferent. You’re set in your ways and determined to handle things the way you feel they should be handled. Your tenacity of purpose and ability to get the job done, borders on obsession. You’re a wonderful manager with a great sense of how to get the job done.

Because of your ability to view things in a common-sense and practical way, you’re an excellent organizer and planner. This stems from a strong desire to be a perfectionist in your labor. Planning is necessary to avoid errors. It’s very likely that a 4 Life Path person invented the to-do list because it’s the rare Life Path 4 who doesn’t have one by his/her side at all times. You program your life in an orderly fashion that allows you to catalog and manage the flow of ideas and activities that fill your day. You function best when under the gun and facing a tough set of problems.

Loyal and devoted, you make the best of your partnerships, and you’re always a good provider. Friends may be few in number, but you’re very close to the ones you have. And once friendships are made, they often last a lifetime.

The number 4 is solidly associated with the element of earth from which it gains its strength and utter sense of reality. You’re one of the most dependable people you know. If patience and determination can ever win, you’re sure to achieve great success in life. Often, you’re called on to take care of others—to finish what they’ve started. It may not seem fair and probably isn’t, but it may be the key to your accomplishment and reputation.

The Shadow Side
Stubbornness, narrow-mindedness, jealousy, envy, and stinginess can be the shadow side of your character.

The negative side of the 4 can prove dogmatic to an excess, narrow-minded, and repressive. Skin-deep people turn you off, and you lack the tact to keep your feelings from showing to those in your sphere of influence. Additionally, the negative 4 has a tendency to get so caught up in the daily routine of affairs that they can miss the big picture and subsequently forfeit major opportunities that come along.

Famous People with Life Path 4
Bono, Minnie Driver, Bill Gates, Jake Gyllenhaal, Billy Graham, Kate Hudson, Elton John, Nicole Kidman, Val Kilmer, Demi Moore, Caroline Myss, Brad Pitt, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Frank Sinatra, Montel Williams, and Oprah Winfrey.

Life Path 4 Compatibility
The Life Path 4 person has a natural fit with Life Paths 2, 4, and 8. They get along well with Life Paths 6 and 7. But they find a challenge (or need to compromise) with Life Paths 1, 3, 5, and 9.

  1. “Willpower that’s often mistaken for stubbornness…” – that could be the tag line for the life of Son #2! His tenacity of purpose does border on obsession…
I’m astonished at how accurate these profiles are, Laurie! Looking forward to reading my own and the ones of the other two kids, who are both 8s…

  2. Hi Laurie, it’s so interesting. Had calculated our oldest son to be a 4 when he is actually a 6. No wonder this didn’t seem to fit much at all.

My experiences with numerology were many years ago and I have no memory of it being as accurate and thought provoking as what you teach. It does make perfect sense….why it would have an effect in our life. In whatever way we choose to understand it and use it. Thank you! And on top of everything else, it’s fun.

    • Colleen – I’m glad you recalculated your son’s number to find that he’s actually a 6. I’m glad you’re enjoying this “class” — the one I teach in person at HolEssence is fun because we can see and hear each other cracking up 🙂

    • Justine – Welcome to Speaking from the Heart. I post on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This Thursday I’ll post Life Path Number 5. Then next Tuesday and Thursday I’ll post Life Paths 6 and 7, respectively. The following week I’ll post Life Paths 8 and 9, respectively. And then I’ll finish off with Master Numbers 11, 22, and 33.

  3. “A 4 Life Path is one of justice, equality, and practicality. You’ll spend your lifetime working toward your goal. Even when you attain what you think you want, you’ll go on and lay foundations for other acquisitions. Always working, always building, so goes a 4, but with a great capacity for patience, you’re well prepared for it.”

These are some of the greatest qualities any one person could ever hope to attain, and if #4 boasts these, well then one could only hope to have the numbers that make this. Yeah, the jealousy and pig-headedness are there too, as they are in other sub-groupings, but in the general picture they are negligable.

    • Sam – You’re right! And if when calculating the Life Path Number the person’s initial reduction was a 22 (before they reduced it to a single digit by adding 2+2 to get 4), then they’re additionally a Master Number 22 – which is pretty darned cool! I’ll be wrapping up this Numerically Speaking series with the Master Numbers 11, 22, and 33. I’m glad you stopped in. Have a great evening!

  4. Well, Laurie, this is so interesting. As you know, I am a 4. I would say that this fits “to a t” some parts of me. It’s almost like you described the “Business Manager” part of me that is so prevalent in my everyday life.

However, somewhere along the line, I seemed to have leaped into multi-numbers. I can see parts of myself as equally as a number 2 or 3. (Not so much a 1.)

I think perhaps my life path may have stayed more solidly a 4 if I hadn’t “woken up” to other parts of myself…and then they began to build and grow and expand. Does this make sense?

    • Kathy – I know exactly what you mean. It makes perfect sense.

Curiously… after you added your month, day, and year together you got a four digit number (i.e., 9+28+1957 = 1994), when you added those four numbers together, you got a 2-digit number (1+9+9+4 = 23). What was your 2-digit number? Was it a 22 before you reduced it to a single digit by adding 2+2 together to get 4?

  5. The first time I added it I was a double number. No kidding. But the 2nd, 3rd and 4th time of adding it was a 1 +3 = 4. No special life purpose for me…lol… But Barry–now, he’s got a double 3. He’s going somewhere. (And hopefully not through the ice on his fishing today…) But, never fear, I have NEVER in all my days fit into a pattern. Only sideways or backwards. Even psychics can’t read me. It’s crazy.

  6. Laurie, you know how you hear the train, then you want to see the train, then you want to drive the train, and then you want to BE the train? For some reason, every number that that you have featured is the number I want to be. If I can’t be a 4, then I’d like to be partnered with a 4. Every one needs a 4 in their life.

    • Sandi – I love the description (train analogy) of how you feel each time you read about a Life Path number. I, too, get a case of the “wanna be’s.” I fully agree about Life Path 4’s — everyone needs a 4 in their life!

  7. I certainly am a number 4, but what happens when a 4 loses their way? I seem to be struggling. I crave order around me, “everything in its place” that describes the 4, but for years I have been swamped by the inability to maintain order in my space. I feel like I am drowning. Help! How do I get back on track?

  8. “If you desire and are willing to work for it, you can achieve enormous success, prestige, and fame. Obviously, everyone with a 4 Life Path doesn’t become famous.”

These are amazing qualities..but i don’t quite understand about the last line..it said that anyone that have the life path of 4 can achieve great success, prestige and fame..then it said that they cannot become famous. So what’s the term ‘achieve enormous fame’ is about?

    just want to know 😀

    • Sora_riku – There are ingredients listed here that not every Life Path 4 is willing to apply. Look at the beginning of the sentence again: “If you DESIRE and are WILLING to WORK for it…” The two lesser action steps are “desire” and “willing” – the icing on the cake is “work.”

    • Cintia – Not everyone has a Master Number. With a birth date of May 31, 1993, you are, indeed, a Life Path 4, but not a Life Path 4 who’s also a Master Number. When we add your birth date up, we get 31, and then add those two numbers together to get 4. There are other people who when we add their birth date up, it comes to 22 (master number), and then we add those two numbers together to get 4. It’s those people (the one’s with the 22) who have the master number.

      • Thank you! Now I understand. I don’t feel like my traits suits number 4 though, confusing. But a clairvoyant once told me that my voice will be heard by a lot of people if I choose the right path.

      • Cintia – I have absolute confidence that you’ll touch many people in a way that’s positive, uplifting, constructive, and healing once you determine your life’s purpose and put your stake in the ground 🙂

  9. I’m a 4 as well and this describes me very well. My birthday is 2/17/1983. Is this a 22? I’ve have read different ways to calculate my life path, to get a 22 but I’m not sure. I am a very hard worker, with a lot of activities on my plate. I sometimes feel like I don’t know what my true path is. Anything that allows me to be creative is for me, but sometimes I feel lost an overwhelmed with all my talents and gifts.

  10. Hello 🙂 I would like to thank you for sharing such GREAT information. I am a 4 and it’s amazing to read all about the 4…..it’s like reading my life! It’s great! I decided to do my father’s number and he is also a 4, perhaps why I feel like I have a close bond with him? However, he is ALSO a 22 master number – I keep looking around for the info on the master numbers, perhaps I am looking in all the wrong places? (Cause I am not finding it) Could you direct me please?
    Cheers 🙂

  11. Thanks Laurie. Yeah that’s me and it will be too nice of you if you guide me how to win patience and determination together.

    • Mayank Mishra – I believe that it’s the undeniable responsibility of each person to be their personal best each day. This includes being patient and determined if the person, place, thing, event, or opportunity we’re working toward is positive, uplifting, constructive, and healing. I don’t know the formula, or how to tell you how to achieve this. Perhaps Nike’s slogan says it best: “Just do it!”

  12. Oh my Laurie. I come to this discussion rather late, but just on time for this #4. And, yes, I was a 22. (September 8, 1958 if you want to check my math). What’s funny? I want you to add my name to the famous people list. Unreasonable I know, but that is what came up for me. Your words, even the shadow side, describe me to a tee. I will come back to figure out my family’s numbers. But for now, I will roll along on my four sides, clunkety clunk. And I love that Kathy and I are both 4s. xoxoxo S

    • Suzi – Your in good company rubbing shoulders with Miss Kathy 🙂 AND a Master Number 22, to boot! I’m glad the information resonated with you (make sure to check out the Master Number 22 information as well)…

  13. How are you doing Laurie? My name is Devon, and i am a life path number 4(10/04/1988).. I have read a little on Master Numbers, and i know that some 4’s can be a Master Number… I’ve felt as though i have a “Secret Mission” for quite sum time, also, its going on about 4-5 years of me seeing the number 333 everywhere!! I have done some reading on the Ascended Masters Teachings, but my question to you is…. Could you explain the connection with the two? and if it is a constant message, can you help me to reach my full potential??

    • Devon – With a birth date of 10-4-1988, you are a Life Path 4. There are two ways to add the numbers:
      Way One: 10+4+1988=2002. Reduced = 4.
      Way Two: 1+4+1+9+8+8=31. Reduced = 4.

There are some Life Path 4’s that when you add up there number’s come to 22 (a master number), then reduced are additionally a 4.

Briefly, repeated seeing 333 (totals 9) means that something is winding down (coming to and end). The good news with that is – every ending heralds the beginning of something else.

  14. great summery on how one must channel themselves to master their goals in their lives, I for one bielive in hope and success, and would really appreciate updates.

  15. Amazing! I’ve studied numerology somewhat but never really identified with being a life path 4. Now that I think about it, I’ve spent alot of time working toward the same goal: getting published. And I do tend to stay in the same place. I llike familiar surroundings.

  16. This was a great read! Thank you Laurie.
    I am a 4… march 28th 1989.
But for the past 4-5 years I have always been catching the time or seeing the numbers 328! Everywhere. At first, i thought to play the lotto (by the way, didn’t win any money) lol but then it kept happening… do you have any insight on this Laurie?

    • Khadij – 3+2+8 = 13. Reduce 13 by adding 1=3 = 4. The 4 energy seeks security and ‘home’ is their haven. People under the influence of the 4 are usually very cerebral, and need to find ways to express their knowledge and wisdom.

The number 4 symbolizes the principle of putting ideas into form. It signifies work and productivity. The 4 energy is constructive, realistic, traditional and cautious.

      Be inspired!

  17. Hey there! Amazing article. It is helping me understand a man that I am having a ‘standoff with’. We enjoy each others company, but I (#6, master number 33) always have to initiate contact. I let him come to me (#4) and now there is a stalemate. It is confusing and, when you say stubborn, do you think this standoff with last forever? I just need the same respect he is afforded. He was finally opening up, then wham, gone.

Thanks so much in advance, keep up the great posts and the information 🙂 Very useful ❤

  18. After reading this I felt somethings resonated with me and somethings did not. I kinda hate being put in a box….if I am a simple 4 does that mean I am not capable of achieving as much as a Master 4? Ever since I was little I would always describe myself as a “dreamer with realist eyes”. I am ambitious but realistic of what I can accomplish at a given point in time. To me everything is possible with the right amount of time and work.

Am I wrong in this, is there such thing as reaching beyond your path?

    • More than a 4 — There are three Master Numbers: 11, 22, and 33. That doesn’t mean that you can’t be the most amazing Life Path 4 whoever walked the face of this planet. I say reach for the stars!

  19. Hello, I have a question, as there seems to be multiple schools of how to do/interpret numerology, especially the way you add up the numbers. My birth date is 2-3-1988. Depending on who I ask, I’m either 22/4 OR just a 4. No one can see to agree. I’ve been told that I tend to lean towards 22 regardless and I do resonate deeply with 22 for whatever reason, even certain aspects on my life up until now seem to take on noticeable flavor of 22 more than 4. Could you help? Is it possible to be just a 4 but somehow also have some vibration of 22 as well? Would very much appreciate your insight!

    • Atalanta — A person with a birthdate of February 3, 1988 is a Master Number 22.

And while all Life Path numbers do NOT share attributes of Master Numbers, ALL Master Numbers additionally share the attributes of a specific Life Path number:
Master Number 11 also shares Life Path 2
Master Number 22 also shares Life Path 4
Master Number 33 also shares Life Path 6

      • Thank you so much! That helps my direction, I was teetering on attempting to fully accept/move forward on my path of 22 until recently. Not sure how I’ll overcome the obstacles, but everything works out in the end if we trust the path, at least that’s what my grandmother says.

May I ask another question? Is it common for master numbers to be surrounded by other master numbers? My grandmother, my boyfriend, my younger sister and one or two friends are all 11s as well.

  20. Dear Laurie, thanks so much for sharing. I am a life path 4 however on some level this does not resonate with me at all.this is maybe everything I should be although I don’t feel drawn to number 4 as well, can there maybe be a reason?

    Thanks

  21. Hi. Saw your post and just wanted to share that- good, bad, or other- I feel like what you said describes me to a T.
And you’re right about the relationships, also. There is a lot of compromise between a 3 and 4. My husband is a 3. I’m a 4. As much as he *lovingly* gets on my last nerve (it’s totally mutual), it works because of the needed balance on both of our parts. He needs me to keep him grounded. I need him to keep me from driving myself crazy with stress and the overpowering desire to succeed (I’m a workaholic). Although, I might add, it bugs the crap out of me that I have to work so hard to get anything and he’s just….lucky, lol. Some people just have all the luck!! Hahaha
That was a nice, well-written, post. Thanks! Keep up the great work!!
