BLUE – Unleash Your Creative Flair!

For those of you who are just joining us, welcome to the University of Life. In the previous “classes” we laid the groundwork for this course—The Color of Wellness, and looked at the therapeutic properties of the colors red, orange, yellow, and green. Today’s palette features the color Blue.

Blue is associated with self-expression, creativity, and environmental wellness. It enhances knowledge, relaxation, and health. It’s the color of a cloudless summer sky. Think of your favorite faded denim jacket, robin’s eggs in a nest, an exquisite piece of turquoise, or the inviting water of a swimming pool on a hot day.

The positive properties of blue are expressed as peaceful, calming, tactful, sincere, trustworthy, fluent, introspective, and responsible.

The negative properties of blue are described as tongue-tied, cold, withdrawn, manipulative, and disloyal.

The healing properties of blue are cooling and protective and can address physical symptoms such as high blood pressure, migraine, fever, cuts, stings/burns, and negatives states of mind such as timidity, fatigue, distrust, indecision, fear of speaking up, and confrontation. Blue decreases respiration and is ideal for sleep and over-activity.

When you need a boost in the areas of creativity and self-expression, indulge yourself with this color. The frequency of blue resonates with the throat chakra. It creates a calm throat center from which to speak our truth. Blue stimulates calm, open, and clear communication, ingredients that are vital to working with others peacefully.

Are you drawn to clear blue? That’s a cool color that calms. Or maybe you enjoy the muted hues that recall a spring sky after the rain; while the shaded tones exude comfort and rest.

What we do with our physical environment—our personal space—speaks to our heart and helps us to flourish. Buy a piece of blue clothing. Add a splash of blue to your décor with flowers, pillows, a candle or a throw. Buy blue sheets that will gently encourage you to sleep at night. Or take advantage of the healing frequency of blue crystals such as aquamarine, turquoise, chrysocolla, or blue topaz.

[Lisa Krupp will recognize many of these photos from her home island, Eleuthera, in the Bahamas. Arch Rock was taken on Mackinac Island, and the pendant is one of my favorites, Blue Kyanite and Pearl].

  1. I love, love, love blue. The blue in your ocean photo is the most magnificent blue. OK, the eggs, hammock and sky photos are incredible too. It’s so interesting that blue is related to creativity. Who figured this out?

OK, teacher, that’s my question for today. Who figured out that blue is somehow related to self-expression and creativity? I mean, you can tell that some scientific sorts could figure out what blue would do to pulse rate, etc and could determine the positive and negative traits. But creativity?? Curious creative minds want to know, please.

    • Kathy – the vibration of the color blue matchs the frequency (vibration) of the throat chakra. The throat chakra is the seat of self-expression — not only how we express ourselves verbally, but in all of the ways we express ourself, including creative expression. It’s not wonder you love blue; you’re one of the most creative people that I know. And the WAY you express yourself is clear, concise, and articulate. Yep, you’re a BLUE alright!

  2. Aaahhh Blue ! Beautiful sky blue, mysterious blue of someone’s eyes, blue of oceans, blue is all about us, around us, each are creative in our own way, when we get out of our own way.

You know I have my piece of quarter size turquoise that I have worn since I purchased it in a shop in Greenwich Village NY, it hangs around my neck.
I also had bought a pale blue hand made bowl to eat my breakfast from, and I do eat my breakfast from it everyday! (almost).
One of the healings I have had to do is find my voice, expand my creativity. Being drawn to these item whether conscious or maybe just intuitively has offered that healing.

    I am Love, Jeff

PS: Great question Kathy! How creative of you! Besides the chakra vibrations, and as we discussed here if I am not correct, Mental hospitals and Police departments began experiementing with color, when in the 60’s ? To observe the effects…

    • Jeff – You hit the nail on the head when you said. “Each of us are creative in our own way when we get out of our own way.” I am, indeed, remembering your turquoise pendant and your blue breakfast bowl. Whoohoo!

  3. I like blue very much. My new wheelchair will be a white one with blue :).Now a have a black one with purple. After 9 years it says perhaps something. My bedroom is all in blue, like the blue you see in Greece. That is on purpose !

  4. Hi, Laurie — I still have the blue earrings you sent me to help me finish my novel last year! And, they sit in a special place on my writing desk. Being creative is the easy part. I need to sit my butt down and find an agent for that novel! What is the color of motivation?

    • Barbara – Your comment about sitting your butt down made me laugh out loud. What is the color of motivation, you ask? It’s a combination of vivid red, orange, and yellow. That blend shouts “kick butt and take names!” You’ll look like a psychedelic rainbow wearing it, but you’ll be a whirling dervish of productivity!

  5. AAHHH…yes, it makes me feel so good to see your photos.. pure bliss…the color of blue…and in “the triange.” Does it get any better?

    • Kim – I just love what you said, “It speaks to me in many ways I have yet to understand.” I know that you’re up in Minnesota with your mother. I hope that she’s doing well this evening.

  6. Laurie, smiling….this is the second time I dropped by to admire your gorgeous photos and to leave a comment. And still can’t seem to find the words to express what I would like to share. Have also had a persistent sore throat for a few days now! Am thinking it’s time to find some blue to wear or to be around. Maybe that’s why your beautiful photos have been so appealing 🙂

    • Colleen – I’m so glad you stopped by Speaking from the Heart to self medicate with a bit of blue. Do you have a blue bandana that you can tie rakishly around your throat? Or perhaps a turquoise necklace? A tablespoon of honey is also good for a sore throat, and so is gargling with warm salt water.

  7. Mom is ok tonight. ‘Ind of down, because they not ballon any vessels out wider or but up any clots. She will most likely have her femoral artery bypassed to give flow to the foot.

    (Hanks for the prayers…
Just watching the site of the angiogram tonight…The area could open upp the artery if disrupted….

  8. Blue… both my birth children and my grandson have the most beautiful blue eyes. Mine are blue/green. Their eyes are blue blue.

I wear a lot of blue in many shades except powder blue. Nope! Not for me.

I own a blue pick-up (miss prissy) that I have had for 15 years.

I get lost in the blue of the sea in its every changing shades depths.

Blue calms me and is somehow connected to releasing of my worries.

Thank you Laurie for your Blue post.

    • Terrill – I have seen a photograph of your grandson and his eyes are compelling. You own a blue pickup named Miss Prissy? Sandi owns a white pickup named Miss Daisy! I love that you connect releasing worries with the color blue. I think of blue as very cleansing and can see how worries could be “washed away” in a sea of blue.

  10. We are moving to a house with a blue study. I’m getting more calm just thinking about it, a blue study overlooking green foliage across the street.

Laurie, it’s nice to visit a post you did before I “knew” you in a virtual way, Laurie. 🙂
