The Naked Cowboy and Clint Eastwood

You know her as Bethsheba Celebration Goddess, I’ve known her for many years as Beth, Saturday evening she was Calamity Beth. No matter what name she’s using, she’s the best theme party-planner-chef on the planet (and an amazing gardener, botanical whiz-kid, to boot!).

Calamity Beth and Doc Buchanan

Saturday evening was Calamity Beth’s annual hoedown. This year the theme was Cowboys — Shoot Out at the BJ Corral. One year in advance she announces what the next theme is going to be so there’s no excuse for not wearing the proper attire. However, in this case, the temperature was 92 degrees before the heat index was figured in, hence …

Len and I had to leave early because of a rise-and-shine bike ride, but rumor has it that next year’s theme is Elvis!

  1. Laurie what a crazy delightful post. I am on my way into the city today and sure is nice wake up with the naked cowboy and Clint Eastwood:)))) I notice you have a tweet button now on you post… I am going to have to figure out how to get one of those. Not today though… tomorrow maybe. Have a wonderful day. Terrill.

    • Terrill – I’m so glad that you dropped in this morning. I sent you an email with step-by-step instructions on how to add the Tweet button. It’s fast and easy — only four steps.

  2. WOW
    That is a great party.

I will be sure to look for your Wanted Reward poster at the Crystal Lake Post Office. I could use the cash…

We had a party yesterday, however I did not go. Couple resons I might explain off line, but the most important one was that I had to take Joe to a meeting last night at 7pm.

    Have a great day!

    Kim

P.S. Feeling better after my spill with OREOZ. I think hes the one that shoudl ahve a wanted poster with the mail lady he was chasing!!

    • Kim – She did a Wanted Poster for EACH AND EVERY guest! Beth always goes waaaaay above and beyond. Over the years we’ve been mobsters, white trash, pirates, sultans & Jeannie’s, the fun list goes on and on!

  3. YeeeHaw! Ride ’em, Cowboy! Well, that feller warn’t nekkid but came pert near to it. Looks like you hanging with a tough bunch of Hombre’s there, gal. Got your picture in the post office and all. Sounds like a heck of of a round-up! I’m glad you got photos, nobody would believe it!

  4. Laurie, how much fun!! Maybe this is something we should all do at least once a year…..find our inner cowgirl or cowboy or mobster or sultan and try it out for a day. The wanted poster is so funny!

    • Colleen – Many years ago when Len and I were attending the Center on Deafness in Deerfield, Illinois, we made one day each week a “deaf day” and only spoke to each other in sign language — regardless of where we were (public, or not). It was really good practice. And while that wasn’t like putting on a custome, it did let us step outside our normal selves a bit. We were stared at when we signed to each other. Imagine how many more looks we’d get if we wore our mobster outfits 🙂

  5. Thanks for all of the nice comments Laurie. I really appreciate it. I have so much fun garbage picking great decorations for my parties, making the wacky invitations, finding interesting recipes and finally enjoying it with all my friends! I can hardly believe this was the 12th year!!!

I can’t wait to see Len in his white sequined Elvis outfit next year with his black sideburns. He’ll be a hunka hunka burnin’ love!!!

    • Beth – It was a really fun time, like it always is! You do have a remarkable collection of items that allows you to orchestrate ANY type of theme party. I don’t know how you do it (but I’m sure glad you do)!
