The other day we had privilege of being immersed in the joyful energy of “Our Garden.” As guests we were treated to a delicious picnic-style meal and got to meet the family, and many friends, of my friend Cindy Kellogg.
As a Master Gardener, Cindy is living her dream. She just opened a flower and vegetable Market in Volo, Illinois. If you live in this geographic area, I hope you’ll stop by and visit. If you’re not in this area, please enjoy a virtual tour in the slideshow.

Funny story … when we arrived on Friday night for the festivities, we were informed by a smiling Cindy and husband, Keith that we were precisely 24-hours early. I took advantage of the opportunity and snapped a few of the photos then. I got the rest of the shots when we repeated the visit on the following evening.

This is such a wonderful dream to wake up to. I am going to let Lee know about this too. I can only imagine the feast you had at the farm. If everyone grew a garden I swear it would bring peace on earth. Thank you for sharing this with the world. Yum!

I remember walking through the gladioli at a friends house–so much fun to walk through flowers as tall as corn stalks! Thanks for the memory and the lovely start to the morning.

Barbara – Trust me, you won’t regret it. We’re planning an early-morning visit this coming Sunday to buy some of her gorgeous flowers. You mentioned gladiolus — they’re spectacular flowers, aren’t they?! By the way, we ate lunch on the outdoor patio of The Cottage the other day because you said that it was delicious (I think you recently ate their with Cheryl and Bryan). You were right on the money — delicious!
P.S I am going to have to check this out I do sometimes go by Volo when traveling…..Are you going to visit again?

Yum, yum, triple yum! Oh how lucky we are to eat fruits and vegetables from the earth. Looks like a magnificent place, indeed.
Kathy – Yum, indeed. The picnic style meal they served was delicious (one of Cindy’s sons, Brian, was the cook. The other son, Scott, kept us entertained at the table).
Nice and close – I’ll have ta check it out! Quite a coinkidink my sister Julie called me today and wants me to move up to cheeseland and start a nursery with her on her 2 acre property. It was a turkey farm. And there is 9 acres next to it. What a wonderful life that would be….
Beth – How neat would that be to start a nursery with Julie?! You’ll have to give that some serious consideration. I would definitely talk with Cindy at Our Garden first to get the scoop. Living on a 2 acre nursery would be the equivalent of heaven for you!
24 hours early for a party . . . I can only wonder what message the Universe is sending you! My green envy is popping up, too. What a beautiful life to have! And to be able to share that life in such a nurturing way.
Barbara – I’m so glad you stopped by for a virtual stroll through Cindy’s garden. I wish you could take a deep inhalation with your nose while standing in the center. It’s wonderfully earthy. Cindy plans to teach some classes in her out-buildings, and offer tilled-space for people who’d like to work their own garden plot but don’t have the space where they live. I think it’s a fantastic idea!
What a delight, and to be early….well that’s just divine luck.
What does it take to be a Master Gardener?
I am thinking of riping out the grass on the side of my house and putting in a Veg. garden. I’m not a master I’m just happy when things come up!!!

Jean – I don’t know all of the details of being a certified Master Gardener, but I know that our Gaia friend, Sandi, does — she’s a Master Gardener as well. It’s no small undertaking, that’s for sure. I think you should put in a garden too. Working it will be therapeutic, and eating from it will be fulfilling and healthy 🙂
