By now you are aware that my hard drive is in the “Geek Squad Hospital” being “extracted.” There’s no photograph today because EVERY bloomin’ thing (and I do mean EVERYthing) is on that hard drive. I wasn’t going to post today, but as I sat here tapping my foot, I started to think about an up-and-coming set of posts that have been simmering in the back of mind.
In the fall I’d like to go through the alphabet and post ONE topic per letter, for a total of 26 posts. I’ve thought of some topics that might be of interest, but I’d like to know YOUR thoughts as well. I’m gathering this information now so that I can do the writing and photography for each post.
In the following list, if there’s something other than what I’ve suggested — please let me know.

Jeff – I’m waiting for my next client and Len is bound and gagged in the closet — I’ve snuck his laptop (he’s not really bound and gagged, but downstairs having lunch). I’m ready to roll with what I have thought of on the list, but am definitely OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS — especially the two letters I have no subjects for.
You are so sweet to suggest I could have asked for your photos. I actually have about 36 shots in my camera that I hadn’t transferred yet. I will work on uploading those to Len’s laptop temporarily and see if there’s something I can work with. However …….. when I unveil THE COLOR OF WELLNESS, (after we’re done with ENERGY MEDICINE 101), I may ask if you have a rainbow shot I might use; I know I don’t have one.

Kim – Well I’ll be darned! On both counts — the link and the yogibogeybox. Who’d a thunk?! Well, we’ll be offline for most of the rest of the evening. We’re going to use Len’s laptop to watch a DVD, “My House In Umbria” (filmed in Italy). According to the back, I’ll cry — Len won’t. It’s got Dame Maggie Smith in it – I love her acting!
Laurie, I had this happen to my hard drive about 2 years ago..
I would recommend you backup to the cloud or at least to a dedicated portable hard drive.
Carbonite or MoxyHome 2.0 are cheap insurance.
I also keep a running backup to WD Western Digital RAID Mirror drive….

It cost me $350.00 to recover those irreplaceable JPG’s that were on that crashed HardDrive….and I was lucky…

Lars – We have a Western Digital Passport – it appears that it didn’t back everything up from my laptop. In fact, nothing since January 21st. We don’t know why. We also have a Western Digital MyBook for business purposes at HolEssence (not my laptop). W’re getting another 2.5 inch SATA drive for my laptop that we’re going to make a RAID-1 mirror on. Dell is sending us a replacement 2.5 inch SATA drive, it will arrive Monday. I’ve given Len the information that you provided — thank you!

Kathy – A great “X” suggestion came in right after your visit. It’s from Sandi. As a gardener, she’s suggested “xeriscaping” — the use of water conservation in gardening. Whoohoo!
Wow, you seem to have everything covered but the gardener in my mind is shouting “xeriscaping”, the use of water conser vation in gardening. I’ve seen the photo you use when speaking of Zen-type attitudes, the rocks and and sand. I just had to throw in my 2 cents worth of an x word!
Sandi – That’s a GREAT suggestion; I’m glad you threw in your 2-cents worth! Hopefully, they will be able to retrieve my thousands of photos. I think you’re referring to a photograph I took in Nova Scotia of a cairn — one was on the beach, the other was in a forested area.

I see you have made backups, and I am paranoid about backups.
We have 9 hard drives onsite – all essential data is replicated amongst all of them daily.
I have a couple of USB external drives that are updated less frequently.
Really essential data is stored at two offsite locations.
I do DVD backups of important stuff and store them all over the place (including a couple in the freezer – where they are least likely to be damaged by fire).

Ted – Great suggestions — all — thank you! Your data backup plan sounds air-tight! Unfortunately, mine wasn’t. I made an assumption (that tells you right there that I was in error) that our “automatic” backup system was backing up every time I put my laptop in the docking statioin. The blue light came on — it must be working, right? Wrong! When we checked the data, the last time it had backed up was January 21st. Big lesson — never assume. Which, of course, after 52 of living I already know, Know, KNOW! But did I implement that knowing? No. Much to my regret. But it’s water under the bridge. Onward and upward. We will hear about my data (can it be retrieved, or not) on Tuesday. I’ll know which way to jump then. In the meantime, I’m using my pent-up energy to do yard work and clean the house.
One of the assists for computers that works:
This is a two person assist:
Since it is your computer, you are the one that answers and your partner asks this command over and over and only giving an acknowledgment after each answer you give (even if it’s the same answer).
Coach: From where can you communicate to your computer?
You: Any answer that comes to mind.
Coach: Thank you, good or an appropriate answer indicating your answer was understood.
Repeat command until you reach a result or are winning.
My friends pc crashed and I did this for about an hour or so. His computer came back to how it was when it was new with programs he’d lost and all of the data that was gone recovered. Before this happened, there was an invisible cloud of brown that we both saw but not in the physical world and just after that, the computer fixed.
This assist is for cars but I took the word computer and replaced it as it had worked on my car in the past. A skeptic wouldn’t believe this, but it was very true for me and did work.

..bet you felt beside yourself with all kinds of new and improved acknowledgements within yourself that you never knew you had before, (or shall I say, were hidden and were always ready to be a part of to begin with…all…over again) when this happened, huh!
Ahhumm….and I thought that myself encounters of these so called, air fart surprises, were only a knock on My door, a knock’n….giggles.
Through these, shall we say, many uproaring occasions on my end of these floopy matters, I find ways pulling up the same truth of myself but now in a different wording, here and there…no biggy, just the same ol’ passion now worded a little differently.
So long as it is true to your heart it will be the same out pour of your beauty – all over again….and to me, will always be a different approach-ful way of seeing it….’cause that was then and this is now:) (then has gone and here is now)
