LIFE PATH 6
The Path of the Teacher

Please note that certain 2’s, 4’s, and 6’s have a “Master Number” associated with their Life Path number; respectively 11, 22, and 33. In Numerology, this is the equivalent to a “special mission” they’ve been sent to fulfill. I’ll cover the Master Numbers at the end of the single-digits, 1-9.Adjustment is your means of getting from life exactly what you wish. You’ll have to meet many changes, opposite opinions, responsibilities, and unpleasant situations. If you face them straight on and adjust wherever necessary, your number promises you satisfaction and you’ll find happiness and contentment. You’ll often play the role of peacemaker because you have the understanding and patience to see both sides of a dispute and help the involved parties come to some mutual agreement. You can see through the clouds of disharmony, find a meeting ground for both people, and point out the pleasant side of their relationship. You’re wise in that you use diplomacy and persuasion, rather than force, in bringing about a solution.

The wisdom with which you mediate can also be used to great advantage within groups or organizations, as well as in family life. You can safely be classified a do-gooder in the nicest sense of the word and to everyone’s advantage.

Love is the reigning factor in your life, and your destiny dictates that you teach the meaning of love to all humanity through your strong sense of justice. In your personal relationships, you give strength, comfort, and lasting love or friendship, and you’re always there when needed and wanted. You enjoy beauty, peace, and harmony in your surroundings, especially in your home. Your home and family are your immediate concern and, once you’ve established your brand of happiness there, you extend it elsewhere.

Unselfishness is one of your main characteristics. It allows you to teach both old and young everything you’ve learned, with the hope that it’ll provide value—shedding light on their path in life. Always sympathetic and understanding, you find it easy to counsel the troubled without ever being critical.

A great connoisseur of the finer things in life, you express your appreciation of the arts by being creative in these fields. Your home is generally a showplace of your interests, yet it expresses the warmth of your personality and charm.

Many unwelcome responsibilities fall to you, and though not easy to cope with, you face up to them and fulfill them to the best of your ability, adding to your overall understanding of life and true happiness. You’re cognizant of the additional strength you acquire with each adversity that you conquer. Eventually, these adversities become like water rolling off a duck’s back and never try you beyond your endurance. You’re a great humanitarian and show it every chance you get.

The Life Path 6 suggests that you entered this plane with tools to become the ultimate nurturer, and a beacon for truth, justice, righteousness, and domesticity. Your paternal, or maternal, as the case may be, instincts with a 6 Life Path exceed all others by a considerable margin. Whether in the home or in the workplace, you’re the predominant caretaker and family head. While the 6 may assume significant responsibilities in the community, their life revolves around the immediate home and family, for this is the most domestic of numbers. Conservative principles and convictions are deeply ingrained and define your character.

You’re idealistic and must feel useful to be happy. Your main contributions are advice, service, and your ever-present support. You’re a humanitarian of the first order. It’s your role to serve others, and you start in the home environment. You’re realistic about life, and you feel that the most important things are home, family, and friends.

This is the Life Path related to leadership by example and assumption of responsibility. Hence, you find it your obligation to pick up the burden and always be ready to help. If you’re like the majority with Life Path 6, you’re one who willingly carries far more than your fair share of any load, and you’re always there when needed. In doing so, you take ownership and often become an authority over the situation.

In romance, the 6 is loyal and devoted. A caretaker type, you’re apt to attract partners who you can care for and protect. The key ingredient that must prevail in your relationships is harmony. You don’t function well in stressful relationships. When this happens, there’s a tendency for you to become dominate and control.

It’s likely you feel compelled to function with strength and compassion. You’re a sympathetic and kind person, generous with personal and material resources. Wisdom, balance, and understanding are the cornerstones of your life—they define your overall approach to life in general. Your extraordinary wisdom and the ability to understand other people’s problems start at an early age. This allows you to easily span the generation gap and assume an important role in life early on.

The Shadow Side
Your few negatives are extravagance, over-protectiveness, and being a bit of a worrywart. You may also meddle in affairs that don’t concern you in an effort to help others understand what you think is wrong, though they haven’t asked for your advice. Additionally, you may not allow other people their own frailties if they’re inconsistent with yours.

The additional pitfalls to your particular Life Path are a tendency to become overwhelmed by responsibilities and a slave to others; especially members of you own family or close friends. It’s easy for you to fall into a pattern of being too critical of others and yourself. The misuse of this Life Path produces tendencies for you to engage in exaggeration, over-expansiveness, and self-righteousness. Modesty and humility may not flow easily.

The natural burdens of this number are heavy, and on rare occasions, responsibility is abdicated by people with this Life Path 6. This rejection of responsibility makes you feel guilty and uneasy, and it can have damaging effects on your relationships with others.

Famous People with Life Path 6

Bush, Michael Caine, Neve Campbell, Drew Carey, Francis Ford Coppola, Claire Danes, Robert DeNiro, Melissa Etheridge, Kathie Lee Gifford, Goldie Hawn, Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Stephen King, Greg Kinnear, Ted Koppel, John Lennon, Heather Locklear, McEntire, Eddie Murphy, Edward Norton, Rosie ODonnell, Bill Paxton, Bonnie Raitt, Jane Seymour, Sinbad, Christian Slater, Sylvester Stallone, Meryl Streep, John Tesh, Ted Turner, and Bruce Willis.

Life Path 6 Compatibility
The Life Path 6 person has a natural fit with Life Paths 3, 6, and 9. They get along well with Life Paths 2, 4, and 8. But they find a challenge (or need to compromise) with Life Paths 1, 5, and 7.

  1. It’s fascinating thinking about all the different life paths people choose as they come into this earth…the patterns which seem to be pre-established in most of us. Thank you for sharing this, Laurie!

    • Kathy – I’m glad you popped in this morning! I, too, find the circumstances (and their associated nuances) that we choose prior to arrival interesting. I suspect that you guys waaaaaaay up there in God’s Country are expecting to get hammered by the same blizzard that we’re battening down the hatches for!

      • You just sent me scurrying to the weather to see if I’d missed an upcoming blizzard! Nope…it looks like all that activity is south of us. Phew… Batter down well, my friend!

      • Kathy – We rescheduled all of today and tomorrow’s clients to Thur/Fri/Sat so we’re at home battened down pretty darn good. The snow is coming down in a steady-Eddie fashion, but so far we haven’t experienced “blizzard” conditions. I’m grateful for a woodburning stove and plenty of wood. If the power goes out we can cook on it. As I told Sandi earlier, I’m going to make hay while the sun shines (so to speak) and throw on my creative hat and write the day away 🙂

      • I am a 33/6 from my calculations (5/17/1982) but I was born nearly three months premature, I have always had inklings toward politics, any thoughts

  2. Wow, Laurie, I feel like I’ve had a good long talk with a therapist. As a ‘6’ I will own most of that (do I have claim everything–there I go abdicating my responsibilities).
I do agree with the part of “knowing” what’s good for everyone. Life would work out so much better if everyone would just do what I told them to… : ) I’m joking.
…but me domestic…Frankly, I always thought I’d missed the domestic gene. However, now I see that prehaps its not so much chores but, rather, enjoying my small corner of the universe–this I do.

    • Leanne – I cracked up when you said, “Life would work out so much better if everyone would just do what I told them to.” And I love that you’re enjoying your small corner of the universe. That’s what it’s all about 🙂

  3. It’s funny Laurie, but I seem to possess the lion’s share of the ‘positive’ traits associated with ‘Life Path 6,’ (particularly the love of the arts and some of the character traits) but I can’t say I am guilty of some of the negative traits. Mind you, I have my share of them, but they are not exactly the ones that define this path. I’m certainly not a worry wart (I take things as they develop) and I’m not over-protective.

However, this debit is most telling as it applies to me I’m afraid:

“The additional pitfalls to your particular Life Path are a tendency to become overwhelmed by responsibilities and a slave to others; especially members of you own family or close friends.”

Ugh. Ha! But when I get to my own number I’ll weigh the evidence.

    • Sam – I’m glad that you don’t relate to being a worry wart – that habit can put a person into an early grave. And I’m glad you’re not over-protective (when my son was growing up I was a “smother mother”). I have the sneaking suspicion you relate to “…overwhelmed by responsibilities and a slave to others; especially members of your own family or close friends” because of your desire and follow-through to be an excellent, reliable provider.

I am going to be so darned interested to know what you do and don’t resonate with when you’re up to bat — Life Path 8 is just around the corner.

  4. Hi, Laurie — I love reading about how wonderful I am! All of this is very true. Ever since I became aware of my need to save people from themselves, I have made great progress in staying out of other people’s business. I am a great supporter of those who are working hard for themselves, though. I am highly domesticated, but don’t know that I feel the urge to become a “beacon for truth, justice, righteousness, and domesticity.” Hanging out with those two number 5’s in my life has taught me a lot about acceptance and compromise. I can get pretty righteous (especially when I KNOW I am right) and that is not all that attractive of a quality. 😀

      • Hi, Sandi — I am not sure how much accommodating they are doing in my direction! You are right, though. I was born to be the one to make the efforts that make life okay.

    • Barbara – I’m so tickled to read your comment. When I was writing this post you were forefront in my mind. I laughed when you wrote, “…especially when I KNOW I am right.” Everyone would do well to have at least one 6 in their life!

  5. Laurie, you have just described my daughter Faith to a T! That is Faith, always the peacemaker, on call day or night to come to the rescue, willing to go the distance for family, friend, or who ever might be in need. I have always marveled at her kind and generous nature, knowing that she is the Real Deal, transparent as glass, tough as steel. Another 6 that I am very fond of comes to mind and you have described her perfectly as well, our friend Barbara. The one who has spent so much of her time and life, working to lighten the burdens of others. And you say that Pythagoras devised this system of defining human characteristics? What a wise old fella!
Can you still see to the end of your driveway?

    • Sandi – I’ve never met Faith in person, but from everything I know, I’ve always held her in high regard. I like the way you describe her: “…transparent as glass, tough as steel.” And yes, I was thinking of our friend Barbara as I was writing this post. She fits Life Path 6 hand-in-glove.

Nope – we can’t see the end of our driveway. And if we were standing outside, we wouldn’t be able to see the end of our frozen nose…that is, if the wind didn’t blow us away first. We’re right in the process of getting hammered BIG TIME by the blizzard that’s meandering its way through — headed to our friends out east. I got an email from my editor up at UW-Madison and they closed the school at 2pm today, and it’s closed tomorrow. There won’t be school here tomorrow either, and I imagine that most folks will be working from home. It’s a doozie!

  6. I think I added wrong because my number is 36/9 and not 8…and I have some 6 in my journey – slightly perfectionistic and I wish folks would listen to me – but that is passing away
Enjoying reading the series and your writing on these different paths. thank you very interesting

    Can hardly wait until 9

  7. It’s taken me a while to digest this profile, I’m a 6, and at first it hit too close to home and too close for comfort. “…overwhelmed by responsibilities and a slave to others; especially members of you own family…” That about sums up my life for the last three and a half years.

“…on rare occasions, responsibility is abdicated by people with this Life Path 6. This rejection of responsibility makes you feel guilty and uneasy, and it can have damaging effects on your relationships with others.” I’m not sure if I abdicated and rejected my responsibilities a couple of months ago, or rather tried to define some stronger boundaries, set some limits. I do feel guilty and uneasy, a bit adrift in unfamiliar seas, yet no longer drowning. Some family relationships have improved, others have been damaged.

I have a question. When I calculate January 19, 1957 by the first method, the end of it turns out 2+4=6. When I use the short method, the end of it turns out 3+3=6. Does this mean that I also have the master number 33?

    • Barbara – In answer to your question, I just did the calculation of your birth date and you’re a 6 no matter which way you slice it. A Life Path 6 — the path of a teacher — is pretty cool if you ask me. In choosing to live on the positive side you’re: Interested in welfare of others, service-oriented. Energetic, reliable, harmonious, cheerful, good-hearted, peaceful. Desires close companionship, domestic life (home, marriage, family). Artistic and creative.

      • Thanks, Laurie, I do see myself clearly in the positive side, even though that negative aspect has been rearing its head lately…

But what I was really getting at was the master number thing.

Earlier you mentioned that “certain 2’s, 4’s, and 6’s have a “Master Number” associated with their Life Path number; respectively 11, 22, and 33.”

I was wondering if I would be a 33? Or am I getting ahead of myself here? 🙂

      • Barbara – I apologize. In RE-reading your original question I now understand what you were asking me. Yes, when added 1+1+9+1+9+5+7 you definitely arrive at Master Number 33. There are fewer Master Number 33’s than any other Master Number. Stay tuned…

      • No problem, Laurie – I have a gift for asking questions in a confusing way. One of many reasons why I’m so lucky to have a patient #2 for a mate! Staying tuned for the Master Number 33 post then!

  8. I’ld forgotten about being 6…
I think I always wander in somewhere when I need to…
other wise it makes no sense and I tend to leave …
not sure why, but I am curious by nature
today, I am drifting LOLs I have had such strange dreams, so real that I think I was actually living them that I stopped trying to interpret them….
Your blog is a quiet shower of energy that is calming….
Thank you for sharing this…and more….
I will go bck to wandering through your thoughts…

    Take Care…

  9. HI, I was born 3-16-1949 (33/6) an really enjoy reading your articles! I knew at age 5 that I was a humanitarian and would be a famous artist and have been involved this lifetime with world peace, humanitarian conferences, to enlighten others, etc. Life is so exciting!

  10. Well, this was a fun read! I just discovered I’m a 6 and felt a bit down in the mouth for being such a people-pleaser 😐 That is, of course, until I read Barbara’s comment up there 😉

  11. Its so real to read things thats been in my life before the internet. Numerology has been a part of me before sex, drugs, religion, who we are and where we going is controled by higher frequency. But by saying that im proud to be a 6. My friends are 6’s 11’s 33′ 1’s and 3’s

    • Priya – Regardless of your Life Path numbers, the number one ingredient for a healthy, happy, longterm relationship is RESPECT for each other. When two people cultivate and nurture RESPECT for each other, and practice intentional KINDNESS, everything else falls into place 🙂

    • Ada – Life Paths 6 and 7 are two very different personality types that embrace completely different ideas. This can be (but not always) a challenging combination.

Life Path 7’s tend to be secretive and somewhat aloof in nature. Their preference is usually to maintain a certain amount of distance.

On the other hand, Life Path 6’s tend to have a need to openly express their love and emotion (how they feel).

This can cause a chasm where the Life Path 6 feels insecure about the relationship, while the Life Path 7 experiences the 6’s loving attention as an annoying disruption.

I’m sure you can see how this might not bode well for a happy relationship.

Generally speaking, the Life Path 6 and 6 combination is a very good, highly committed number pairing. Just like any other relationship, there may come a time when obstacles need to be overcome, but due to the harmonious and loving nature of the 6 Life Path, this is a combination charged with romance, and one that has a very good chance to form a strong and lasting relationship.

  12. Hi Laurie,
Well…I always wondered how this worked…now I see I am a No.6 for life path…so does that mean i also have the Master Number 33? My birthday is January 26, 1950. I have taught school for 36 years…worked in Kenya for over 2 years in the rural area…and was in 2 convents…then was married…and now live alone…and I am searching for what is next!!! Do you intend to post the Master explanations for 11 and 22 as well? Thank you for the clarification!

  13. I can totally feel this. As I read more and more, it described my home. My family. I took in 3-5 young adults who is living life blindly. 3 of them was a move in and I was to play Momma (which I am and they deem me as) counselling them about life and their future. The other 2 are extentions of one of them and my biological daughter whom is now staying with me (which makes the 5). I’ve been the mediator, counsellor, adviser, financial supporter, job recruiter, and so on to all of them. And for all of them to be here is what makes me happiest and to see them doing better in life accomplishing what I’ve been trying to advise them about. I love all of them as if they were mine and they all love me as if I am Momma. Two of them moved out to do bigger things but try and visit home as much as possible. Another one will move out then move back in because he can’t stand to be away from home long. Do I love these kids? With every breath in my body and they help make me feel complete. My kids are my world.

  14. Hi Laurie, I have been researching to see if I am a 33/6 or a 6 and need your help. If I total all my numbers they equal 33 but different web sites tell me to add them in different ways. My birthday is 01/29/1974. Thank you!! 🙂

    • Michele – There are two ways to add your numbers:

      Way #1: 1 + 29 + 1974 = 204. Reduce by adding the numbers together: 2 + 0 + 4 = 6.

      Way #2: 1 + 2 + 9 + 1 + 9 + 7 + 4 = 33.

Master Numbers (11, 22, 33) are never reduced. A master number always “trumps” a life path number. Please know that as a Life Path 33, you also have the qualities of a Life Path 6.

  15. Fabulous post. I’m a LP 6 who gets along very well with a 7. I have a more intellectual bent about me and was wondering if 6’s and 7’s can get along well long term
I know our Chinese astro and Western astro signs do get along quite well though

    • Iris — I’m glad this post resonated with you. As to 6 and 7’s getting along long-term, I’d have to say YES. Remember the old adage: “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” 🙂

      • Hey good to know and thanks Laurie and Iris. I seem to like 7’s as well and I’m a 6 with an intellectual bent due to my western and chinese astro signs, as well as my destiny/expression number. I have to agree with you that 7’s tend to be aloof and find affection disruptive or annoying and they ignore you a lot when they feel like it… that’s the part which is off-putting… they are usually in their own world. Hopefully things will go well despite the differences. I always get a bit worried things will fall apart because of the lack of communication
